Most people will tell you what I have been hearing relentlessly for the past few months: "College will be the best years of your life." They are probably right; you have the freedom to do and eat whatever you want. That is, as long as whatever you are eating can be cooked in a microwave or is worth the ten minute walk to the cafeteria. Now, I love eating as much as the next person, but there is no way in hell I am walking that far for a cookie; so, with cookie dough in one hand and google in the other, I used some good, old fashioned ingenuity and solved my dilemma.
My conquest began in my room, lying on my bed, watching That's So Raven. The particular episode I was watching featured Raven eating the stinky wheel of cheese from the air vent in her school (most 90's kids will remember this episode). Raven's actions, although unpleasant, made me realise that I was in the mood for a snack. Once the credits began, I closed my laptop and began to deliberate what I would eat. As I was thinking. I recalled a suggestion my roommate, Cassandra, made the day before: try making cookies in the microwave. Though skeptical about the quality of cookie I would produce, if there was even a way of producing a cookie in a microwave, I did what any teen from this generation with wi-fi would do: I took to Google.
I began typing, but before I could could get halfway through my search, Google had seemingly read my mind and how to make a cookie in a microwave' was the third suggestion. The fact that enough people had inquired into the possibility of microwaving cookies for it to be a suggestion in the search engine gave me hope. After skimming through the first few recipes, they all had two things in common: the recommended "bake" time was 30-40 seconds and they were all made from scratch. As a college student, I have limited fridge space, money, and time paired with unlimited laziness. With those four things combined, there was no possibility of anything being made from scratch. I did, however, have TollhouseR chocolate chip cookie dough. Assuming that cookie dough was cookie dough whether you made it from scratch or bought it from walmart, I took out a spoonful of dough after an epic battle to open the damn thing--placed it in a bowl, threw it in the microwave, input 40 seconds, and pressed start.

My face was pressed to the glass the entire 40 seconds due to my fear of over cooking it and adding to the burnt smell that engulfed my room from popcom the night before. As soon as the buzzer went off, I quickly opened the door to inspect my creation. The smell of warm cookies quickly filled the room, and with no apparent smoke, flames, or burns. I was feeling optimistic. For the most part it looked like a cookie, although Chris from down the hall would later describe it as looking like "a dog threw up in a bowl". I set it down to cool for all of five seconds before I picked it up again to taste it.
Unafraid of the burns on my tongue that would follow, I tried my first bite. It was great! I could not believe it! Since it was fresh out of the microwave, the chocolate chips were still melted and the dough was still hot. One would assume that the cookie would be dried out given my chosen method of cooking, but that was not the case; since it was still hot, the moisture lingered for some time. After finishing nearly half the bowl within the first thirty seconds, I offered a bite to Cassandra, who at this point was enviously watching me devour the cookie. She found it to be just as delicious as i did, but was sadly limited to one bite due to my stingy, hungry nature. It was only after I had plowed through the entire cookie that I realised how much of a stomachache speed eating such a rich, sweet food can give you.
Aside from the post cookie sickness, I was very pleased by the outcome of my venture and I highly recommend it to any college student or other cookie lover who is too lazy to go out or make their own from scratch. By solving my problems independently, and without mommy and daddy's help, I believe I am truly embracing the college spirit.
