Frequently asked questions

What is Alaska’s history?
Alaska’s history is full of exploration and adventure. Alaska was first explored by Russian explorers in the late 1700s. In 1867, the United States purchased Alaska from Russia. Alaska became a state in 1959. Since then, Alaska has been a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
What do you like about Alaska?
Alaska is a land of extremes. It's the largest state in the US, but has a population of less than one million. It has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, but also some of the most extreme weather. I love Alaska because it's a place where you can really get away from it all. There are no roads connecting Alaska to the rest of the US, so it feels like a completely different world. It's a place where you can find peace and quiet, and really get back to nature.
Why is Alaska so important to Native Americans?
There are a number of reasons why Alaska is so important to Native Americans. First and foremost, it is the homeland of many Native American tribes. Alaska is also home to some of the most pristine and untouched wilderness in the United States, which is of great importance to Native Americans who value their connection to the natural world. Additionally, Alaska is home to many of the most important cultural and historical sites for Native Americans, such as the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, which is the site of the first human migration into the Americas. Finally, Alaska is a key part of the Native American economy, with tribes heavily involved in the state's fishing, forestry, and oil industries.
Who were the first people to live in Alaska?
The first people to live in Alaska were the Inupiat, who are believed to have migrated from Siberia to North America up to 12,000 years ago. The Inupiat lived in small villages along the Arctic coast, subsisting on hunting, fishing, and gathering. Around 1,000 years ago, the Inupiat were joined by the Athabascans, who migrated down from Canada and settled in the interior of Alaska. The Athabascans were expert hunters and fishermen, and they also began to trade with the Inupiat for furs and other resources.
