Magnum was incorporated in December 1968 and was the first private company to be grated a licence to promote, operate and manage 4-digit numbers forecast betting in Malaysia. Magnum was converted to a public company in 1970 and was subsequently listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in the same year. The Magnum Group is located at Plaza Magnum in Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. Today, Magnum is principally engaged in the gaming business, being the pioneer and market leader in the Malaysian authorised gaming industry.

Besides, Magnum also involved in property and leisure, which is the Hotel Flamingo, 'Impiana on the Waterfront' (condominium) and Flamingo Commercial Complex. Tan Sri Dato' Md Khir Johari, aged 79, a Malaysian, was appointed as the Vice Chairman of Magnum Group on 28 December 1977.

Tan Sri was awarded the honorary degree of Doctors of Letters by the University of Agriculture, Malaysia in 1987. Earlier on, he had also obtained the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from University Malaya and the honorary degrees of Doctor of Education and Science from La Salle College in Manila. In 1957, Tan Sri was appointed Minister of Education. In 1960, he charged portfolios and became the Minister of Commerce and Industry. In 1964, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and three years later went back to Education Ministry.

In 1968, he again returned to head the Ministry of Trade and Industry. He is currently the President of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Malaysia and Malaysian Zoological Society (Zoo Negara). Dato' Ling Keak Ming, aged 46, a Malaysian, was appointed to the Board of Magnum on 21 September 2000. Dato' Ling started his career by setting-up a company called Pan-Trade (M) Sdn. Bhd. , a company involved in the import and distribution of building materials and held the post of Managing Director from 1979 till 1988.

He then joined Lionvest MWE Sdn. Bhd. , a subsidiary of MWE Holdings Bhd. , as the Managing Director. He was primarily responsible for the rebuilding and setting-up of Jengka Timber Complex as well as the management and daily operation on of logging and timber related activities. Currently, he is the Managing Director of MWE Advanced Structure Sdn. Bhd. and MWE Golf & Country Club Bhd. with the overall activities responsibility in property construction, project management and management of a golf club.
