They are Operations Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting & Finance and Information Management. We will be looking into detail what similarities and differences are in the operations management of my chosen businesses which are bmibaby and Fullers Brewery. Operations function is a vital part of a business for both bmibaby and Fullers Brewery.
For Fullers Brewery it defines the production of goods and how it is moved out the door to be delivered to it's relevant customers. This operation is vital for the business and mainly involves the management side of the resources that they have. The main driving force of operations is to improve customer service. It is the responsibility of most people in the business to maintain positive levels of customer service by working together as a team. The Transformation Model applies to most businesses including bmibaby and Fullers Brewery.
These organisations have inputs which is dependant on it's objective, transformation which is appointed after the input is mainly established and then needs to be transformed into it's desired output, which is mainly the quantity ; quality in which the goods and services are being produced. The main key features of bmibaby is that the organisation is running as a low cost division which enable it to produce and give low price flights and expenses to it's customers to maximise sales and profits. This includes bus journeys to and from home to the airport.

This doesn't affect the amount of flights they can have per day and how many people can fly in one aeroplane but in fact there is a very flexible schedule that the airline has which integrates it which a large range of choice in the times of flights available to it's customers for maximum satisfaction. This is also viable because it means if a flight has to be cancelled or severely delayed then the next available flight isn't that long after this one going to the same destination which maximises convenience for the customer in meeting their demands and helps improves their customer service reputability.
There are a variety of ways to meet customer needs but the organisation does not prioritise needs for higher paying customers over lower paying customers as equality is important the businesses morale and practicality of excellent customer service. The only exception is when higher paying customers have opted for a better quality journey throughout their flight plan. Bmibaby is an organisation with very high valued assets and doesn't take maintenance of their aeroplanes very lightly as they prioritise health & safety very highly. This does require very careful planning in their busy schedule for these activities.
They expect regular feedback from their cabin crew as it is vital to improvements in the services they provide. This is also vital for the performance measures they take for operation of their planes especially time management as it costs around i?? 50 a minute for delayed planes. They got to allow time for baggage claimed to being lost and time to load the plane and it's customers. Time management in this instance is tested to it's extremes. Cost management seems to be the organisation's most important factor as it affects most activities in the business.
It is very vital that there is efficient use of their ground staff and co-operation within their team. Some of their operation is outsourced and it's financial performance can be delayed due to functions within the business not co-ordinating with each other which can seriously affect their cost management. Safety standards is a vital key for the business's stability and successful as it can test your organisational skills when it come to delays of flights having to be diagnosed efficiently for smooth operation throughout.
The organisation priorities team management with maximum efficiency to be the main goal and success of the business linked with the cost management involved in the operation. The key features of Fullers Brewery is to produce beer as a premium product at a premium price. This conveys of the beer having maximum quality for the price you pay for it. Their main objectives and goal are towards beer production as business through the selling of beer in pubs to distribution of the beer as packaged to shops and supermarkets.
This area of distribution is growing stronger and stronger within the business as ethics have changed which involves increase in beer buying in supermarkets at low prices for same products compared to higher prices for same product in pubs per pint. The demand is increasing for bulk buying in supermarkets by customers and drinking at home which is what Fullers Brewery is trying to achieve and is increasing their resources towards that area of distribution and beer buying.
This is affecting the imports and exports of beers as this is inceasing in high volumes which is what Fullers Brewery is trying to cope with, to adjust to where the market for beer buying and distribution is, in high quantities. The demand is ever so increasing in these sectors and they are now in full stretch of resources that they are distributing to their full capacity. Areas of expansion within the business have been considered but locality and space around the brewery has been restricted due to rivers and motorways around the premises.
Looking at the premises growing in height is not viable for the business. Their only alternative is to expand to another locality similar to the locality of it's current premises and has to withstand the same demand of distribution as it's current premises is, at it's maximum levels of resources being used if deemed necessary. Testing of their beer has been a vital factor in the sale and distribution network of their beer to meets customers and supermarket satisfaction for quality as well as price of their beer.
It is also vital for quality assurance and quality control procedures which have to be met with strict guidelines as the standards for the beer has be high to ensure maximum protection of the brand as it exposed to the outside market of today. To ensure quality assurance and quality control is at it's highest standards a testing panel is on duty to give it it's final recommendation's to maximise sales, profits and most important of all to meet consumers demand. Customer service is vital for future of it's business as it maximises publicity leading to high revenue and maximum financial stabilisation of the business to grow future success.
There are many variables in brewing especially the transformation process in which the product takes from raw materials to brewing to packaging and then finally to distribution. The relationship with the suppliers are vital as it keeps a constant business and contact to maximise revenue and profitability. The process of packaging for these products are vital as they need to be maintained in working order to the consumer's eye and has to pass trading standards. Good quality packaging is viable for the distribution pressures of the product and imagery has to be of attractiveness to the consumer's eye.
