The Attractions of Balboa Park in San Diego

Balboa Park contains museums, gardens, attractions, and venues in San Diego. Tourists around the world go to Balboa Park to check out cultural heritage that City of San Diego has bought from the international community. The buildings around the park looks like is been made in colonial era during the Spanish rule, but instead it was made in 1915 which it is Spanish Colonial revival architecture; it was popular during the early 20 century. The reason the shepherdess is center of the painting, is to grab the attention of the viewer. When she look over her shoulder, she is telling the viewer that if they are going to be with her, and also convincing to travel to the countryside to relax their mind. However, she is playing her innocents; the strip of her dress is falling of her shoulder, which to question the ideal of the image, the innocent of a peasant girl or William is sexualized her like every girl he painted. William use textures and color to make a hybrid of painting and a photo.

In the painting of The Young Shepherdess William use cool color to express the beauty and reality of countryside. The Industrial Revolution started around late 1700s and early 1800s which cause the people to leave their farms and go the cities to make more money. The reason he use more cool in this painting to take a break from the city, and go be with her where she is waiting for them. For example he used cool color on the sky to express the calamity of living in the countryside. William made balance the warm and cool color with monochromatic. Behind the girl the viewer can see the dry dead grass and the healthy green grass, see how the brown is turning into green, later it become yellow, and becomes brown like it is the lifecycle of the farm. William did a good job on to explain the sexual passion though colors, he use cool colors on the girls dress to verity her status that she is clam and innocent, but he use light red or dark pink on the strip of the dress, and since is hanging over is telling the viewers that she is waiting for them.

William use space to distract from the natural to the innocent young women. He diminishes the size of the sheep from the shepherdess. She is bigger and standout more than the sheep, like if the animals are just there eating. The shepherdess is the main focus of the painting. he print her in this size so a customer can buy the painting, but not for the artwork is because the beauty of the shepherdess. The sheeps are there to verify her status as shepherdess and also it explain the life of shepherds. William loved the countryside, and wants to express this to his painting, and maybe he draws her to express his attraction to nature.

The Young Shepherdess is verifying the beauty and power of the female image. Even though it was not a strong sexual image, it was magnet to bring people to the countryside and relax from their hard work. William wants her to bring a little fantasy to his male viewers that the girl they loved is out there and waiting for them.
