From the Latin pax, meaning "freedom from civil disorder", the English word came into use in various personal greetings from c. 1300 as a translation of the Hebrew shalom. Such a translation is, however, imprecise, as shalom, which is also cognate with the Arabic "salaam", has multiple other meanings in addition to peace, including justice, good health, safety, well-being, prosperity, equity, security, good fortune, and friendliness.

This latter understanding of peace can also pertain to an individual's introspective sense or concept of her/himself, as in being "at peace" in one's own mind, as found in European references from c. 1200. The early English term is also used in the sense of "quiet", reflecting calm, serene, and meditative approaches to family or group relationships that avoid quarrelling and seek tranquillity — an absence of disturbance or agitation.

A peace movement is a social movement that seeks to achieve ideals such as the ending of a particular war (or all wars), or minimizing inter-human violence in a particular place or type of situation, often linked to the goal of achieving world peace. Means to achieve these ends usually include advocacy of pacifism, non-violent resistance, diplomacy, boycotts, moral purchasing, supporting anti-war political candidates, demonstrations, and lobbying to create legislation.

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achieving world peace. The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue.

The UN has peacekeeping missions: Dark blue regions indicate current missions, while light blue regions represent former missions. The UN, after approval by the Security Council, sends peacekeepers to regions where armed conflict has recently ceased or paused to enforce the terms of peace agreements and to discourage combatants from resuming hostilities.

Since the UN does not maintain its own military, peacekeeping forces are voluntarily provided by member states of the UN. The forces also called the "Blue Helmets", who enforce UN accords, are awarded United Nations Medals, which are considered international decorations instead of military decorations. The peacekeeping force as a whole received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1988. B. General and Specific Objective All of us want peace and order in our country and have a wealthy and stable economy. So we created a study that will help us to achieve these aspirations.

The objective/s of the study is to:

  • To show the importance of peace and order in the development of our economy.
  • To know how peace and order affects our economic stability.
  • To know if our laws on peace and order are implemented properly.

Significance of the Study

To great extent, Local Government Code of 1991 has laid out the things that a barangay is authorized to implement in the exercise of its mandate to promote the welfare of its inhabitants.

All government exist the social and economic services needed by the people such as benefits, free education, livelihood program, and most importantly, is their security and the protection of their individual and community rights. The barangay being the basic units of the local government plays an important role in the development of the nation. The status of peace and order in a barangay illuminate that of the country, and a peaceful barangay is a peaceful country. It helps in maintaining social order, political stability through the help of the Executive orders of the government because of that the economy has been fully reorganized.

Scope and Limitation

The scope of this study is for the Barangay of different communities around Metro Manila. The study will include Barangay Marulas, Valenzuela City and how they work. It is focused on the procedure, ways and technique used by the Barangay officials as a subject for our thesis. The study does not cover any Government agencies that are not related to our topic. II. Review of Related Literature The benefits brought about by peace can also be measured in economic terms. Peace does, in fact, have a monetary value independent of the human values associated with it.

It can be expressed in terms of the additional value to global GDP1 that would ensue from Economics and Peace in conjunction with the Economists for Peace and Security impact of lost peace on the world economy at 7. 2 trillion dollars (US$7,200,000,000,000) annually. Over a ten year period this adds up to US$72 trillion. Once nations are impoverished, feel under Threat and are captured by strong, aggressive, nationalist leaders it is very hard to undo the momentum. The only workable solution is for the international community to provide the necessary help before unpalatable governments do arise.

Building the structures of peace into governments’ ODAs may prove to be one of the most unique, far reaching and effective actions possible. Foremost in the government’s agenda is the promotion of peace and order. This is exemplified in its continuous and active campaign against terrorism and criminality, including kidnapping, illegal drug trade and smuggling and street crimes among others. As a result, the average increase of the crime trend of 5 percent from 1998 to 2002 declined to 2. 4 percent in 2003.

In the drive against Kidnap-for-Ransom (KFR), 16 most wanted KFR leaders and 101 suspected KFR members were arrested during the period July 2003 to June 2004. Out of the 64 kidnapping incidents, 49 were solved during the same period reflecting a 77 percent crime solution efficiency rate.

In the drive against illegal drugs from July 2003 to June 2004, more than PhP22 billion worth of shabu and ephedrine were seized, 15 clandestine laboratories and 7 storage warehouses that contained a significant volume of chemical precursors and laboratory equipment were dismantled, 12 international rug rings and 239 local drug syndicates were neutralized, 35,514 pushers and users were arrested and 5,344. In support of the anti-smuggling campaign of the government, the Philippine National Police (PNP) carried out 4,154 operations that resulted in the confiscation of PhP7. 568 million worth of goods during the first semester 2004.

Despite these organizational improvements, the government still needs to find additional resources to fully contain these illegal activities. Barangay Peace and Order Committees (BPOCs) were likewise organized in 37,535 or 95 percent of all barangays nationwide except in ARMM.

Of these barangays, 29,701 or 75. 7 percent have formulated and implemented their Community Public Safety Plans. The plans enabled the concerned barangays to identify responsive peace and order and public safety-related programs in partnership with the community and law enforcement agencies. The Arroyo Administration is committed to pursue the professional of the PNP to make the government more effective in the campaign against criminality. Syndicated crime groups especially kidnappers, bank robbers and drug traffickers will be targeted. Thus, recruitment standards shall be upgraded and annual recruitment of qualified personnel must be increased.

A continuous career training and development program, with focus on courses that address identified training needs, shall also be pursued. Moreover, career courses, specialized courses, foreign and in-country training, in-service training will be provided to qualified and deserving PNP personnel. The government will continue to intensify operations to neutralize terrorism and other organized crime groups. Do you think that the government should make more laws regarding the peace and order implemented in every community?  Conclusion/Reaction papers Angelica Irish E. Galang MD2Y2-3 Peace is important in today's world it is the sign of development and prosperity. We can do the things we want to as long as we know our limitations. We can build our own business without any intervention.

We can interact with other people, share stories, as long as we do not violate any law. Having Peace and order in our community helps us to build a harmonious relationship with each other and can help to develop our economy. For example; the other country has a good background about us then they will be attracted to visit here/ be a tourist, they can also invest in our local businesses that can help to increase the rate of our economy. In order for us to achieve good results or to see the outcome of the laws being implemented, it should start among ourselves.

We should cooperate, do our duties and responsibilities. We should learn to respect one another to gain the respect we want. We should discipline ourselves, we want change in the society then it should start within us. And all of the things we experience in this world is because of our God Almighty, we should always thank him for all the blessings we receive every day. ( Rannaire Max P. De Leon MD2Y2-3 In doing this research study I found out that peace and order is one of the very important aspects in our economy.

It helps our economy to maintain its stability, not just that it attracts more tourists and investors. I also learned the different problems of Barangay officials when it comes to peace and order and what solutions they usually do. For me this research study is very helpful because it can serves as our guide to a better and wealthier economy in the future. Robin Cortez MD2Y2-3 I found out that our survey is more a case of robbery and drug addicted if we just prevent those cases will certainly grow our economy.

Because a beautiful country and rarely troubled tend to enjoy it immigrate to the country so if we unite with the discontinuation of the crime will grow our economy and our country more recognizable as a proper and more attractions countries. Maybe better if we unite to fight crime and we take pride in our own country and promoting to be attracted to tour here in our country. Glenn Juan Martin MD2y2-3 The importance of peace and order in the development of the economy is our assigned topic for our group.

In the topic different objectives were formatted. To mobilized and strengthen the economic development, which indeed must be one of the main focuses of the study. Peace and order is needed to make a progress in the economy, to gain and attract more foreign people to invest here in our country. So that Filipino people could have their future in their own hands. Furthermore, this study will help much assessment to job opportunities in many fields of work. And will help analyze the growing problem in the economic systems.

Rafael Joseph M. Go MD2y2-3 We will see in this research paper if what are the concern of every person inside the community in regards of the development of our country by following the different peace and order laws implemented by their barangay. It seems that peace and order laws are one of the important issue for the residence of the barangay Marulas because of the several cases of liquor addict and robberies.

We ask them if do they think that the government should make more laws regarding the peace and order implemented in every ommunity and no one suggest any additional laws regarding peace and order. It only mean that this peace and order is not a simple issue that can be solve by simple mind. It needed more study on how we can use the peace and order laws as the beginning of having a healthy country. Every individual is a piece of our community and every community is a piece of our country. The changes must start on you, don’t make anything that may harm your subordinates. Always remember that “WWJD” (what will Jesus do) what will Jesus do if he is in your position.

Don’t do anything bad against anybody. Let us not forget that we exist not only in the eyes of people but also, and more importantly, in the eyes of God. We are living here to earn for the kingdom of heaven where life is eternal.

After we succeeded and achieved our main objective which is the importance of peace and order in the development of our country, We the researchers fully recommend this research study to all individuals in order for them to apply the different ways how to maintain peace and order in our country or in their community.
