The world is very fragile, and I view it as partially colorless. It is colorless because I cannot see its colors; I am colorblind. This actually set my academic and career goals for me. I originally wanted to be an aircraft pilot since middle school, but since this disability prevented me from doing so, I decided to use my love of mathematics and science to major in aerospace engineering. This way, I can engineer ways to fly for people who can actually fly. I want to bring my love of aircraft, mathematics, and science into a part of the college I will attend. I want to innovate and participate in the research of aircraft. Therefore, I can be part of the aircraft research community of my college, and I hope to bring advances into it.
However, what is more important is that the world is also becoming more colorless as people have to focus on a set routine of studying to succeed in life. In other words, people are losing confidence and social skills with one another, and often times, people are very awkward with each other when they first meet. I want to change this in people. Before the spring of 2015, I used to be a very reserved person. I would focus on studying, and 1 hated talking with other people. I only had a few friends I stuck to, and I never desired to meet anyone new. This was the colorless side of me. However, just last year, I was involved in a specific social club event, which brought color and life into me.

This was a community service club that organizes community service events and fundraisers for community and international goals. During my most significant event, I was in a busy environment where many other volunteers were from different clubs from different regions. I started off staying close to the people I knew; however, they left me to meet other people they knew from other places. I was alone, and suddenly, I felt that if I did not take the chance to meet new people, the whole event would not even be worth it. After all, there were so many opportunities to meet new people.
Suddenly, I felt a pang of optimism and enthusiasm. I wanted to just experiment and put myself out there. I wanted to just meet people and say “hi”. I wanted to create an aura of enthusiasm around me. As 1 sat down with a group of people 1 never met before, we started to have a conversation! We found common interests, and we eventually started to talk about our lives. After that, the rest of the event went smoothly, and I was able to make close friends that I still keep in contact today.
Because this club gave me many opportunities to interact with other people, I was able to drastically boost my confidence and social skills. For example, I had an easier time bonding with my peers during an internship. I felt more comfortable around people I did not know. I was less awkward, and I realized I had an inner energy to just be optimistic around people I do not know. My growth of optimism deviated me from my blind initial path - the path in which I closed up and kept to myself. I am proud to be who I am now; I am an aura of enthusiasm.
After being enlightened in this way, I want to bring my enthusiasm to college. Diversity is going to be huge - not only in terms of race, but also in terms of personality. There will be social butterflies and others who are reserved, just like how I was in the past. Just like how I was in the past, they must also feel awkward around people. However, once this awkwardness barrier is broken, there will be so many positive aspects about the person to embrace. I hope to bring color into the more reserved people; I want to inspire them to become interactive people in college and in life. Not only that, I also want to bring my enthusiasm into clubs and organizations that I will join in college. By doing this, a comfortable atmosphere can be formed with everyone, and we can all succeed.
