Air pollution is a commonplace term, it is the contamination of the air. Air pollution happens when harmful gases and different types of particles go in the atmosphere. Climate change is when our planet's climate is changing and constantly has been changing the weather. The temperatures have been going up and down and also the seasons have been shifting. Air pollution is a part of climate change, and also there is many different types of air pollution that cause climate change. How is air pollution changing the climate?
People have been causing air pollution in large cities because of all of that substance that people caused, but also natural sources are let into the atmosphere. “In the past 150 years, such activities have pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise it’s levels higher than they have been for hundreds of thousands of years” (National Geographic). The air quality probably and could have spread from one side of the Earth to the other. The high levels of sulfur has sickened and killed thousands of people. In the 18th and 19th century the towns were based on the use of coal. But now what people rely on is basically gasoline, oil, electricity, and the burning fossil fuel. “Natural sources can sometimes be significant but do not usually create ongoing air pollution problems like the other source types can”(National Park Service). People should be careful with what they use.
There are different types of air pollution, there is man-made air pollution and there is also natural sources. We burn fossil fuels by using it for heating, for vehicles, electricity, and other industrial stuff. Other man-made sources include dry cleaning, paints, wood stoves, and also flour mills. Since we use electricity and vehicles daily we can cause smog, acid rain, and greenhouse gases. “Smoke from burning coal and diesel fuel has been one major source of particulate emissions” (Sciencing.com). Smog is a dangerous air pollutant for people and other different animals. Smog is caused when coal or oil burns and has a little bit of sulfur. Natural source pollution comes from volcanic eruptions, forest fires, lightning strikes and also hot springs, and these sources include fog, mist, ash, and also volcanic gases. The eruptions and all the different fires can cause low temperatures and can reduce sunlight. The volcano eruptions have sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen fluoride. The eruptions cause the ash to go into the atmosphere and can generate many polluting gases. Forest fires also let carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and particulate matter. “The particulate matter emitted by forest fires is so fine that ordinary dust masks cannot adequately filter out the tiny particles” (True Green Pages). These different types of air pollution have different causes and effects on the air.
If humans tried we would be able to reduce air pollution. There are some simple ways to help reduce pollution, people should stop burning leaves and other trash because we would be breathing the air causing danger to humans. Trash has many chemicals in it and it is a danger to humans. Humans cause traffic, and traffic causes air pollution. When you burn your fuel while driving a vehicle, and you keep on stopping and going constantly you are polluting the air more. When people smoke it doesn’t also hurt the person's health, but it also lets different dangerous chemicals in the air. It can hurt the air because of what the cigarette has in it. “Cigarette smoke contains what are known as gaseous pollutants, which are small enough to be inhaled and stick to your lungs. Some of these harmful chemicals include carbon monoxide, ammonia, arsenic, benzene, and hydrogen cyanide” (ColmanAir). Cigarette smoke is also apart of indoor air pollution, air pollution is basically when particles of the air contaminate the indoor areas. If anybody camps out in the woods or the forest humans should be careful with the fire that they make because we never know when a fire might start. “Beyond the clear danger to life and property in the burn zone, smoke and ash from large wildfires produce staggering levels of air pollution”(Climate Central). Humans can reduce pollution if we caused less traffic, and did not burn leaves or trash, and did not smoke, we would not have as much air pollution than we have now.
Humans hurt the air, but we also hurt ourselves the reason behind that is because we are a major part of air pollution. We hurt ourselves slowly by breathing the contaminated air and that hurtin our own health. The air is just like cigarettes but worse, you can also get lung disease because of it. Air pollution is basically the main reason why people have asthma, heart disease, lung cancer. “According to the World Health Organization, air pollution accounts for as many as seven million premature deaths worldwide each year” (Reference). Inhaling the particles in the air may be linked to poor bone health. Breathing these types of particles can be a health risk or even beyond a respiratory problem. If humans want to be more healthier we should eat more healthy, fruits, vegetables. If a person is born with asthma it can be very dangerous for them, it can make their asthma worse. “When pollution levels are high we all breathe in harmful substances, but if you have asthma, you’re more likely to feel the effects” (Asthma.org). If the pollution wasn’t this bad people would not have trouble with their health, but since it is so bad we have to be cautious. Air pollution is a deadly and dangerous thing for a person with any health problems, it can start something bad or make something worse.
Air pollution is a big part of climate change, and there are many causes and effects of it. We can change on how we treat the air and the earth if we tried, but it would be hard. We use electricity, vehicles, gasoline, obviously burning fossil fuels, humans use these things every day and since traffic is also a cause of pollution it would be hard. If we were more aware of how we were causing this huge problem we would have slowed it down, but we have increased it. All of the factories, burning fossil fuels, and electricity that we use can and probably make things way worse than they are now.
