My first inner quality I value is the patience, because patience encourages the Early Childhood Educator to be a better observer, caregiver, decision maker and communicator. We as an Early Childhood Educator have to be patient, because it's not easy to work with children. Sometimes they can act very spoiled. Our job is to show our patience. Our goal is to make kids happy with our compassion. You cannot reach a goal with just a snap of the hand. It needs perseverance, commitment, hard work, and patience.

Here are three practical strategies ideas I have learned in this course that would help me to implement this quality to put it into my daily practice as an Early Childhood Educator.

By practicing attentive listening techniques we can implement patience. Most of the little ones ask a lot of questions and like to talk a lot. Attentively listening their questions with proper facial expressions and responding their questions is one way to implement patience. So if a child comes to me and ask a question (child type) I would listen him her carefully, try to understand what he\she really wants to learn and then answer his question by easy words and the way that he can understand.

Another thing that I've learned in class is to help child when he's building with blocks. I should be patient when she is trying to build something hard and she gets frustrated. I can take my time to empathize with her, ask open ended questions and give minimum help to build.

Also by creating supportive climates I can encourage patience in the classroom. Again when children play with blocks, sometimes they want to use blocks which another child is using. At this situation child would learn that he needs to wait until other child is done with his using. I would talk to him nicely and tell him that "he got that block first so you have to wait until he finishes".

My second inner quality I value is respect. As an Early Childhood Educator, we should inoculate kids about how to treat others in environment. Children want to be treated kind, polite, and friendly. Our goal should be to teach them that this depends on how they treat others. I think it is very important to give the message "treat others the way you want to be treated”.

The strategies I have learned in this class: In active learning settings in which children have opportunities to interact with peers and adults, learn being sensitive to the feelings, interests and needs of others. Whenever there is a chance to implement respect I would take advantage of being a role model to children. For example; if a child does not want to participate in story time, I might empathize with his feelings and offer him an other choice. I should offer reassuring physical contact and comfort.

By creating prosocial environment where I can encourage positive behaviors. In prosocial environment, I can take my time to connect and empathize with the child. For example; if one girl continuously pulls the other girl's hair, again I would come to her level, have an eye contact, listen her, help her to find out the solutions and understand other girl's feeling. Then she would automatically say sorry. So she learns that she has to respect others' feelings.

As an Early Childhood Educator I can be a role model to the kids by my talk and manners. They would see me using the words "thank you, I am sorry, please..." So they can learn them from me.
