The reason why Stanley's Camp Green Lake Experience was ultimately successful was of several reasons. One was because of how much he learnt during this time. For example, he learnt if you don't give up you can achieve a lot. He didn't give up when he was walking toward the big thumb; if he did then he would be dead. He didn't give up when he was digging Zero's and his own hole. Stanley also learnt that not all camps were like "Camp Fun and Games".

During the time at the camp, Stanley succeeded - without realising in loosing weight. He also built stamina and strength. His body learned to cope with the extreme heat and water shortage (not forgetting when Stanley was deprived of water by Mr.Sir). Stanley's hands became tough from all the digging and he became tough to the bullying of the other boys and councillors. But he wasn't bullied by one person - Zero; who became Stanley's first friend. A friend which Stanley would save from death.

Throughout the time at Camp Green Lake Stanley discovered many different things, one of which was the long time riddle of his great-grandfather. His great-grandfather said "I found refuge on gods thumb". His family always wondered how he survived in the desert without food or water for three weeks. Even after he got better, he himself didn't know what he was talking about. But Stanley found out that he took refuge on gods thumb by living on the mountain which looked exactly like a humongous thumb. On "god's thumb", you could find water and food; onions.

Stanley also broke the curse which had been on the Yelnats family for several decades. The curse was broken by having the great-great-grandson of Elya Yelnat's, carry the great-great-great-grandson of Madame Zeroni, up the mountain to drink the water which went up the mountain and be sung a lullaby. On the day after the curse was broken, Stanley's father invented the cure for foot odour. This was proof the curse was lifted.

Another thing Stanley discovered was what the Warden was looking for. The Warden wanted the boys to dig a hole everyday- not for the reason that it would "turn a bad boy into a good boy", but because she was looking for the treasure of Kissin' Kate Barlow. Stanley found the top of a lipstick tube which belonged to Kissin Kate, but gave it to X-ray so X-Ray could get a day off and Stanley would get on X-Ray's good side. So the warden forced the boys to dig around that area to find the treasure, but that was the wrong area - she never found the treasure. The right area was in the hole that Stanley found the tube in.

After living on the big thumb for weeks, Zero and Stanley came back to Camp Green Lake to "dig one last hole". They came at night and dug till they found the treasure (which the Warden tried to take off them but changed her mind when she saw the hole they were digging in was infested with yellow spotted lizards). After waiting a long time, Zero and Stanley were able to move and get the last of the lizards off them. They weren't bitten for two reasons; because of how still they were and because of the onions they ate on the big thumb. "Lizards don't like onion blood".

Stanley's experience was also successful because he was found not guilty for stealing the pair of shoes. And Clyde Livingston - Stanley's idol, found out the truth- that Stanley was falsely accused. Zero was also able to leave the Camp because they couldn't find the Zero's records - which had been destroyed by the Warden. And because of that the Warden lost her camp. It was also successful because, in a way, Stanley was able to reform Squid - Alan. Squid asked Stanley to call a number and tell Squids mom that "Alan says he was sorry".

The treasure Zero and Stanley found was in a suitcase marked "STANLEY YELNATS". In it was shinning jewels. But also the more valuable -paper work. Altogether it was worth a little under 2 million dollars, which was shared evenly between Stanley and Zero. From this Stanley's family were able to move into a house with a basement for his father to do his experiments, and Zero was able to hire a team of detectives to find his long lost mother.

All in all, Stanley Yelnats acheived more then many would in their lifetime during his experience at camp green lake. He made many disccoveries about his past, about life but most of all what he himself was capable of doing.
