Marriage has been a part of our life for thousands of years. Almost all religions and cultures on the planet have some sort of partnership ceremony.

Marriage is seen to construct new social relationships and mutual rights between spouses. In addition, it authorizes the rights or status of the children when they are born. According to Webster’s dictionary, marriage is defined as “the legal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife”. Most individuals want their marriage to last a lifetime. Today, in society over half of all marriages end in divorce.

Marriage is more than two individuals living together it shows stability. Marriage is seen as a strong bond two individuals share, such as having security where one can have high hope they’ll stay together. Financial benefits come with getting married such as having tax breaks. There are many reasons why individuals decide to get married.

Marriage is seen to show love and understanding. Marriage has so many aspects that awaits for individuals such as maturity, patience, or self control and many other things that can lead to a happy marriage. Marriage has a lot to offer, but as well is something that shouldn’t be rushed into. It takes time to truly understand if it is what one wants or needs.

The pros and cons of marriage was eye catching due to my experience around marriage. Although, I’ve never been married myself, marriages that I have witnessed from my friends and parents have given an influence to how I perceive what marriage can be.

In addition, I can tell that marriage is not an easy path but a rewarding experience. Having conducting research and learning about this topic in class, has given me a better sense of why marriages can struggle; also the coping strategies couples may use to create a stronger bond.

This topic was chosen so that there would be an understanding on the benefits of marriage and why individuals do it. In addition, finding the pros and cons to marriage. The value of marriage is another factor on debating whether it is important or worth the sacrifice. Commitment and faithfulness are both factors that are seen in marriage and are looked upon any marriage.

There are various reasons individuals get married and by understanding those reasons one can see how marriage can be the answer or a positive effect in their life.

The topic “Why Should I Get Married” caught attention due to curiosity on the going changes in society today pertaining marriage. The social norms and opinions on marriage have progressed and changed drastically throughout American culture. In addition, as well wanted to uncover recent history on debating whether or not an individual should get married.

In other words, wanted to familiarize or learn about societal opinions and facts. Knowledge on this topic was the main concern for personal gain. Therefore, with this topic and gaining further knowledge, it would result to an impact on how decisions will be distributed for own personal life.
