The mission statement for every agency is different. The one that stood out to me was the Oklahoma City’s Police Department because their main objective is to keep civilians safe. This correlates with the principle of Police Administration and Organization because to being law enforcement one has to care for the citizens. This addresses the topic that talks about the police role. They are there to protect and maintain order.

In addition, I believe in order to be professional one has to look professional. The Oklahoma City Police Department has very strict rules on the appearance and take them very seriously. This may be minor but is another reason why it caught my attention.
Divisions
Oklahoma City is the biggest city in Oklahoma. There are about 630, 000 individuals living in this city. Which is why the Oklahoma City Police Department has created many divisions that patrol, secure, and protect the entire city. To be more specific, there are five main divisions that are under the order of the Operations Bureau of the Oklahoma City Department. There are two deputy chiefs that take initiative of this organization. Along with the deputy chiefs, 150 officers that respond to them. Their job is to respond to calls, whether it would be 911 calls, service and vehicular accidents. The following are the five units that patrol the Hefner, Springlake, Santa Fe, Southwest Division, and Bricktowns divisions.
- Hefner Division (Northwest OKC)
- Springlake Division (Northeast OKC)
- Santa Fe Division (Southeast OKC)
- Southwest Division (Southwest OKC)
- Bricktown Division (Entertainment District)
As previously mentioned, Oklahoma City is a big city. It takes more than just one patrolling division to cover the whole ground and secure the city. This relates to Police Administrations and Organization because it keeps the areas secure. Having specific divisions to patrol assigned districts also ties in with omnipresence as discussed in class. It is a tactic that is being used to deter crime by having an impression that an officer may be present around the area. Statistics have shown that the more active law enforcement are crime tends to decrease and criminal activity within a gang are less prone to stay on task due to the presence of law enforcement. In addition, it takes less time for officers to respond to calls and arrive at an incident.
Police Support Units
There are many units with in the Oklahoma City Police Department. Not only do they have five patrolling divisions, they also have nine support Unites that include the following:
911 Communication Center: The Oklahoma City 911 Communications Center takes all the calls being directed to the 911 line as well as the non-emergency line. It is the largest Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Oklahoma ( cited) . The PSAP is made up of non-sworn officers, and specialized individuals that answer and dispatch calls.
Bomb Squad: The Bomb Squad provides skilled service for the diffusion of bombs and to handle incidents involving explosives.
Canine Unit (K9): The Canine Unit consist of a trained and specialized officer and K9. They assist in preventing and distinguishing of crime, tracing criminals, and most importantly providing a positive image of law enforcement in the eyes of society.
Crime Scene Investigations: Crime Scene Investigators take on the maximum level of proficiency in crime scene investigations in order to assist in a solution. Their main mission of a Crime Scene Investigator consists of administering obtained evidence and sustain proper chain of custody to preserve crime scene evidence whenever it is to be administered or presented at court.

Staff Inspections: This unit is similar to Human Resources. They investigate within the agency itself. This unit also in charge of overseeing the department’s CALEA accreditation process.
Tact Team (SWAT): Tactical Unit, also known as the SWAT team, was created to provide dignitary protection, combat barricaded suspects, hostage situations, or incidents where a special force or tactic is required. The primary operational mission in high-risk situations is to contain and isolate the danger. This unit can also be known as police paramilitary unit (PPU) because of their main goal is to threaten, use force collectively, and to negotiate.
Traffic Investigations: The main focus of traffic investigators is predominantly on three parts of traffic investigation. They include fatality and serious injury collisions, hit and run collisions, and driving under the influence investigations. They can also present evidence from any incident to present before a judge.
Not only are these special units play an important part to law enforcement. They are crucial to our Criminal Justice System. These officers are specialized in specific fields and maintain organization. If individuals were not trained to be in these specialized units, chaos may occur. If an officer who is not properly trained to handle a K9 things may not turn out as planned. It takes more education and experience to fall into one of these units. These officers are specifically trained to deter the crisis that their specific unit may encounter with proficiency.
Budget
It is important to know about the compensation within Oklahoma City Police Department. Budget is a big topic when applying for a position at any job. The image above also represents the positions this agency has available making it more competitive than what it already it. Tying this back to the course, this topic was present in the initial part of the semester.t This relates to understanding all the factors that this job may intake when applying. Knowing the budget of this agency helps future candidates know how competitive it is, eliminate individuals and from the application pool. This helps understand that the reason behind apply may not be for the money, it may pay out in the end, but it is more to protect and maintain order.
Statistics
This table representation of a yearly collection of obtained crime that is analyzed and recorded. It is Federal based, FBI, the information is provided by citizens reports of crimes to the police. The table above illustrates data for index crimes of July of 2018. Law enforcement and Oklahoma City Police Department agency reported 2,831 crimes in July of 2018. This tables further shows the types of victimization as well as the increase and decreases in each specific victimization.
This was implemented in the report not only because it was a requirement but in addition to letting society know what goes on in their city. This report consists of many types of victimization, its purpose as discussed in the course is to collect all the data gathered to produce an annual statistic on crime reported.
Victim Services Program
The Victim Services Program collaborates with the Oklahoma City Department. Their mission is to provide direction and services to victims. This also applies to the victim witnesses of crime. Those who report being a victim are not all psychologically stable, about half of them report moderate to extreme destress as a result of crime. This program helps victims know what they are eligible for as well as letting them know of the Victim Rights.
I added this topic on the agency report because I believe from what I have been taught that there is more to wearing a badge. There have been many cases where the focus is on the offender, where as it should be more towards the victim. This program helps the victims by providing them information and resources to receive further assistance.

It is important to know the criteria for the requirements to becoming an Oklahoma City Police. It helps individuals know what an agency is looking for. It eliminates those who may want to apply but cannot pass from the requirements. In addition, it is important to know the hiring process. I broke it down step by step as well as adding a description to each process. If an individual is not up to go through the year or so process, then he or she is not meant to be in law enforcement. Also, not just anyone can be an officer, it takes determination, skill, the right mind set, as well as other traits. So, if an individual is not prepared for the process they should not be able to wear the badge. It allows the processes to be more competitive.
The historical event that is important to this agency is the Oklahoma City Bombing. It was a domestic terrorist attack. This impacted a lot of individuals life, and it was at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, down town. There were a lot of lives that were lost and many that were injured. It was a real eye opener for the state, which is why they created tactical teams that are specialized to diminish situations like the one that occurred in.
I believe that what makes this agency unique is the number of different departments within the Oklahoma City Police Department. It has definitely expanded to how it was initially. It was grown exponentially. The fact that they have those divisions patrolling their routes north, south, east, and west to cover the whole city is intriguing. Also, the fact that they have a victim service program is amazing. More agencies should focus on the victims as well.
