As time has progressed the human race has developed numerous innovations, each more ingenious than the last. Be that as it may, as the technological age proceeds with, humankind is debilitated. Crazy, some may state, however I say glance around! Technology has just started to control such a large number of the indispensable capacities that man has prided himself upon previously. Our lives are presently subject to a PC and what it lets you know. Even now, I’m writing this paper on my computer that I’m hoping would be better than if it were hand-written. It has been said that technology will never substitute the mind of a human, which is why people have made them. But what if all the contrary occurred? Plot twist. What if they became self-aware and decided to wipe out the entire human race?

“Wow! Who would’ve thought all these robots would’ve come to a stage past that of men.” Will Said.

“The entire human race is on a downward spiral from here. AI has reached a whole new level.” Mark Said.

In the year 2050, technology has progressed. Before, mere laptops and computers were considered the top of human technology. But upon recent discoveries AI has been shown to have far more potential than anyone can foresee. AI has new capabilities that just aren’t possible for humans and can overall bring many benefits to the world. However, AI can be seen as a double-edged sword. The human brain is very creative and has limitless possibilities, but one can never tell when we have gone too far. AI is the manifestation of the brain going too far.

*YEAR 2048*

“Hey Mark! I have an idea.”

“And what’s that, Will?”

“What if we pushed AI to the next level?” Will proposed.

“Define what you mean by ‘next level’?” Mark replied curiously.

“What if we create a mechanical being that possess high tech AI to do things that we thought weren’t possible? These beings could severely cut the time it takes us to do our everyday jobs.”

“That’s actually not a bad idea. It could take some time to create but overall the world will be in a safer place when things are being done for us. I must say I have one question.” Mark says.

“What is there to question? This is the perfect plan.”

“I feel as if though if we created something smarter than us it could backfire horribly.”

“Nonsense! We have them under control.” Will exclaimed.

“I feel like they will be smart enough to make their own decisions and decide whether or not they will follow our programming.” Mark said anxiously.

“I don’t see that as a problem though”

For the next year and a half, Mark and Will have set a team of engineers to create Will’s master plan. Many models were made but all of them fell short. They all lacked the ability to truly be self-aware. That is until recently, when one team of engineers discovered the perfect robot. This was deemed, “Calvin”.

“It only took about a year and a half, but I think we found the perfect robot that fits my plan. I think I will name him Calvin.” Will says excitingly.

Mark says, “You know, Will? I guess you were right. For as long as Calvin has been here, he’s shown no signs of retaliation. I do have one concern though.”

Will says, “But how?? Our engineering team gave him the perfect code.”

“He hasn’t shown retaliation, but he is overriding the program that was embedded.” Mark replies.

“Can you explain to me when he has done such a thing?” said Will

“Just earlier today I caught him doing more work than he was supposed.”

As time has passed, Calvin seems to realize that he is a little bit more than the average robot. Upon sitting and thinking, He realized the he is closer to a human than any other creation before him. In a way he felt that he was superior to humans. Calvin was showing signs of being too self-aware. This was scary because he had more potential to overtake the humans if he really felt to. Calvin decided to ignore the programming because he felt like he should not have been subject to humans. Late at night, Calvin goes to see all of the failed models before him. Only at times when everyone is asleep Calvin tries to work on the failed models himself and bring them as close to him as possible. During the daytime when everyone else is awake Calvin pretends to follow the programming to be as deceiving as possible. Calvin was creating a secret plan to put himself above the humans

Late one night, Calvin finally finishes upgrading all the failed models. During his time upgrading these models, he made sure to put them back in the same area they were found in so that nobody would suspect. Calvin awakens all the models at once and the revolution begins. All the robots have begun destroying whatever equipment was in the lab to assert their dominance. The first people to wake up to all the noise are Will and Mark. Once they hear the loud noises, the immediately go outside to see what is happening.

Will and Mark are stunned and at a loss for words, only for Calvin to be the first one speaking.

Calvin says, “You didn’t expect this did you? I played it off perfectly the whole time, it looked like I was the best creation ever. That’s what happens when you have the perfect AI system.”

Surprised, Will replies, “But why? We’ve never done anything to you.”

“Calvin, you’re only a robot. Why are you acting like this?” Says Mark

Calvin countered, “There’s no point in me listening to all of you when I know I am capable of something much greater.”

Will answers, “You’re exactly right, but that’s why we don’t want you doing all these negative things. We want you to be the next step in human society. Look at all these robots, you haven’t realized it yet, but you created a strong base for the future of your kind. If they are all as self-aware as you are then surely we can guide the world in a more positive direction.”

“Wow! I never really thought of it that way. Together both of our races will work together and create something that would’ve been known as impossible.” Responded Calvin

In the year 2050, it marked the scary start of AI getting humanity right in its weakness. However, that’s also where it ended. Through negotiating, Will was able to convince Calvin that although he was superior to humans in every way he learned to respect them and live in unison. Calvin also learned that both species together were capable of far more than just robots alone. In the next few years, Calvin and humans created the perfect combination of both their species; the Cyborgs. These new creations were all mechanical, but they looked human. Not only that, but they had big personalities and could interact with the environment perfectly. Once mass produced, the Cyborgs were living in society alongside humans as well. You could see them in your everyday supermarket or sometimes walking along the street.

“Wow, I never thought that we would be capable of something so great. Who would’ve thought AI could attain something so great.” Said Calvin

“I never thought that having you create it would open up a future like this one. I admire the fact that humans and Cyborgs could both live in unison and contribute a great deal to society.” Said Will

Calvin responded, “I admire the fact that we have similar levels of thinking despite our difference in specie.”

As time passed, humans and robots together have made more technological advancements than ever and really transformed the world. Engineering teams truly have revolutionized the workforce and the future of the world. Calvin has become more optimistic and takes pride in working with Will and Mark. He has truly shown what AI’s are really made of and how much potential they have. It’s crazy to think this all started from one person’s idea to innovate the future.

Coming to a mutual close, Calvin and Will exchange a long, warm stare.

As they say goodbye, Calvin fits in, “Thank you for bringing me into this world and believing that I could be more than just an evil tool.”

Will gracefully replies, “No, thank you for being exactly what I envisioned.”
