Let me start off by saying that writing essays isn’t really my cup of tea. I find it really difficult to begin as there are so many different ways to do it. I can start with, “One day…” but then it would be too common. Finding the right way to start a composition, for me, is the most taxing thing in the world to do. Then, there’s also the problem of choosing which items to include and disregard. If the limit of words is four hundred then I must choose the words carefully. Otherwise, I might go over without getting my message across. Do you understand my dilemma?

You might find this weird coming from someone who makes students write their stories. If they would only find out then that would make me the laughing-stock of the whole school. I won’t waste your time anymore with this senseless talk and start with what I’m supposed to write about. Everything started one Monday morning in November of 1975. This was when I made my entry to this world. I believe I made my parents really happy just by being here. Then there was elementary. It’s where I learned about social interaction. I discovered that if I’m nice to people then I’ll make more friends but if I’m not, then life will be lonely and miserable.

From high school I learned that spending some time in making myself look presentable is important if I want to attract the attention of people from the opposite sex. Oh, yes! There’s also college. In the university, I learned that we really live in a dog eat dog world. Competition is stiff and you must learn to cope otherwise you won’t survive. Despite of this, I learned to really fall in love for the first time. I won’t really go into too much details as I would have to write another 400-word composition for this topic alone. After college, I tried my hand on a lot of different things.

Off the top of my head, I remember working as a project assistant, administrative assistant, senior clerk and customer service representative to name just a few. It wasn’t until I tried my hand on teaching that I found my calling. Teaching is not for the weak of heart. You must be able to endure several heartaches and some disappointments before you can reap its rewards. But mind you, the rewards are tremendous. Being able to make a difference in the lives of your students is what it really is about. I can’t think of any other way to live my life.

A Day of My Life

It was a fine morning, soothing breezes were moving at a sluggish pace, and clouds filled the sky like slowly dissipating smoke after a huge explosion. I was driving my car at a speed of 40 mph.

This beautiful scenario had restricted my adrenaline rush and I didn’t feel like hitting the accelerator. I just wanted to make the most of this beautiful time. I turned the radio on and fortunately a soothing melody hit my ears. All these factors were quite unusual for the place where I lived. Weather here was usually quite hot and irritating.

Suddenly I realized I was getting late, I had promised my parents to be at the venue in time. But it seemed like once again I was going to miss the party. This thought brought out all my childhood memories in the foreground, all the time I had spent with my parents, all the love, all the care I had enjoyed.

That unconditional love is very rare in this world; I realized this fact when I moved away from my parents. Everyone, at some point or the other, has to take some important decisions regarding his life. I did the same. I wanted to be an independent, self-reliant person and for that I had to make the most of any opportunity that knocked my door. Unfortunately the job offer I got was for another city, almost 250 miles away from where I actually lived with my parents. So I had to move away, rather unwillingly.

It started drizzling and those droplets like diamonds started to fall on the windscreen. This was quite significantly positive addition to the beauty of the current scenario. This light rain reminded me of all the time I had enjoyed in the rain with my mom and dad. They knew I loved rain so much, it made me so happy.

And just for the sake of my happiness, they used to take me out to my favorite places whenever the weather was nice. I still remember the time when I was in school and my mom used to wake me up every morning. Her face was the first thing I used to see every morning, and no doubt, my days went great. My dad used to drop me off to school every morning. He never leaved unless I waved my hand from the edge of the main gate of the school.

These memories were making me feel good and equally sad. I just couldn’t wait till the moment I saw my parents again. I accelerated the speed a little. I was only 15 miles away from home now. It breathed a new life in me, as soon as I entered the limits of the area. Everything seemed so familiar, so known and strangely fascinating. I could relate to almost everything I saw.

These shops, these buildings, these parks, these malls, everything reminded me of the time I had spend here. I suddenly saw a restaurant where I used to eat every Friday with my friends and then at walking distance was the theater where we used to come for movies after dinner at that restaurant. It all reminded me of the time I had spent with my classmates and friends, the parties we used to have, the little fights we had and then the childish patch-ups. It all sounded quite funny now.

I was driving quite slowly once again. My surroundings fascinated me to the level that is hard to be described in words. The road was quite straight with so much of green on both sides of it; I had a memory of this road. Then I realized that this was where my school had been. It had changed quite so much, it was not that green back then.

I saw the building of my school which had not changed at all, the main gate, the parks, the windows; everything had some memories attributed with it. I still remember how much I loved my school, may be because of my classmates. I loved being with my friends. I remember those never ending conversations we used to have, regarding movies, music, TV shows, food, new trends in fashion and so much more. All this was playing like a distant echo in my head.

I could now see the block where my house was, my destination. My heart throbbed at the thought of seeing my parents and luckily some of my friends again. What I felt at that moment was a mix of excitement and gloom. Both were for the same reason, I was going to see them after a long time.

Narrative Essay (Life is Full of Mistakes)

It was a bright, cloudless sunny Thursday afternoon around 2pm; my mother and I decided to go grocery shopping. As she drove through the driveway, she saw a DHL delivery package dropped in front of the house dated third of March, 1988. When opening the package, an urgent warning letter was address to her from my elementary school Principal. Immediately, she opened the letter and read through it, her eyes turn red and started shouting on me! Saying; why don't you concentrate on your study? Instantly, I started crying so heavily. All of a sudden, she calm down and looked at me with complete love and said; "This is just a warning letter."

Then, assure me that she will be there for me in terms of helping me with my studies and daily homework. In addition, she explains that one must never give up and to keep trying. In fact, the mistake I made was not concentrating on my education, which led to a warning letter from the school Principal that I would not be allowed to return for my last year of elementary school because I had not maintained 5 passed subjects. As a matter of fact, not going to school regularly, not doing my homework, and not doing some extra reading at home had caused the letter sent to my parents.

This mistake got me in trouble with my mother. First, I felt relieved with the words of encouragement I heard from my mother and thought about what to do to bring my grades up. Quickly, I determined to study so hard in order not to receive the final warning letter from the Children's House School principal. All of a sudden, my best friend came into my house and decided to help me out with some of my homework after seeing the letter. We read together that very day, he showed me the simplest way of getting sums done. Also, told me that he will take me to some of the jet academic competitions to get more knowledge and skills.

On getting to the jet competition, I saw a lot of students from different schools taking part in the competition. Additionally, what surprised me at the competition is that the first mathematics question thrown to my friend at the event was the same one we both solve together, and he gave a correct answer when working it out without wasting much time. At the end of the competition, I learn different kind of tactics on how to keep up to date academic status from the students and this really busted my self-determination that I can make it as well.

Second, In order to bring my grades up I had to attend school regularly and pay more attention in class. In fact, I was missing school because I lacked the interest and this affected my progress in all my classes especially mathematics and biology. These subject teachers did not want any of their students to miss more than five days in a lesson. If we do, we would lose fifty points, which joined to our advisory grade. As a matter of fact, I had missed ten days and I lost my hundred points. Additionally, these teachers normally talked to me and stated, "You are one of my favorite students."

They loved the level of my participation when I was in a class, but I had to come to school more because I was constantly taking the tests late. After they spoke to me, I began to start attending school more for a perfect attendance. In fact, I realized that not only was I hurting myself but also hurting my teachers as well. They both saw so much potential in me. Third, another problem is that I do not always do my home-work after school. Every day after school, I would hang out with my friends at the school playing field. In fact, I was not thinking about my importance, I was only thinking about having pleasant.

Eventually my mom put her foot down and demanded that I must return straight home after the closing school hour to do my home-work, and she stated that when I got home from school, I felt so tired that I would not be able do any of my home-work. In addition, she continued that coming straight home from school instead of hanging out could improve progress in a class. As a matter of fact, elementary science and mathematics subjects need much extra practice after school hour. Moreover, I was taking elementary science and mathematics, and I failed them twice.

These classes involved a lot of reading and solving, and I did not spend much time practicing for these classes, as I should have. In fact, I dropped out of these classes because my final score was low; I knew that I could not handle these classes. Therefore, looking on how to improve my grades, I realize that am a strong person. As a matter of fact, I was not used to having a good grade, but I did not act as if it was the end of the world. Then, I simply changed so much in my studying habits and the school attendance. In fact, I determined not to have a grade below 5 pass subjects again.

Lastly, I made it to the next class level with the help of my friend, class teachers, and my parents. Furthermore, I am doing my best not to receive the grades I had for the first term of my junior year. In fact, I had learned from my mistakes and I did fix them. During the second term of my junior year, I had struggled a lot and my intention is to passed 5 subjects or above and I did. In conclusion, now I felt so happy that my academic learning skills have improved than before and the experience I had from the jet academic competition changed my life.

Additionally, my mother ideas of monitoring my class-work progress and congratulating me on my small successes in daily tests regularly really motivate me to do better and give me more confident of passing any upcoming class-work, test, and exam. Then, I maintained the status of competency up to the secondary school and to the college level. What I realized about reading, going to school regularly, and doing my homework is that it makes me stronger and improved the level of my Intellectual thinking skills.
