The Internet was created in the United States in 1969 by the "United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency". The World Wide Web was created at CERN in Switzerland in the 1990s by a British (UK) man named Tim Berners-Lee. Today, people can pay a fee to access the Internet from Internet Service Providers. Some services on the Internet cost nothing to use. Sometimes the people who offer these free services use advertising to make money from them. The alternative name, "Net" came from "internet. The Internet is used for many things, such as electronic mail (e-mail), online chat, and the World Wide Web. The most used service on the Internet is the World Wide Web. The Web contains websites, blogs, and also wikis - including Wikipedia. The second major use of the Internet is to send and receive e-mail. E-mail is private and goes from one user to another. Instant messaging (such as AIM or ICQ) is similar to email but allows two or more people to chat with each other much faster. Online shopping is growing in the world with sales having reached. This was only 2% of all retail sales but is predicted to rise to 5% within a year or two and to 10% by 2009. Other researchers estimate the market to be even larger and growing faster. For example, IMRG  estimated e-retail sales to have already reached 7% of all retail sales. 'Most people' will buy groceries, books, CDs, and even clothes by e-shopping. Books, movies, and software, high on 'factual search, are natural for e-retailing, but electronic products, groceries, and clothing are also increasing. Ninety-four percent will be at the expense of existing channels, and only 6% from extra growth.

Figures 1. 1 indicate tile growth. According to the industry body, the Interactive Media in Retail Group, there are about 4 million people in the world who spend an average of  5,000 per year online. Shoppers have long used the Internet to browse for products before buying offline, but US e-shoppers at least are reversing that trend, with 45% of E-shoppers buying online after researching in stores and catalogs, according to a survey of 1,252 e-shoppers and over 80 e-retailers. This must be a worrying trend for bricks retailers, but also helps to strengthen the competitive position of multi-channel bricks and clicks retailers. Amazon has always set the standard for online retailing and e-shopper experience. But check out Endless. com which is Amazon's own entry into the shoes and handbags fashion category. You will find awesome browsing and navigation, plus very easy tools to read about products.

The result is profound user experience on designer brand name products. As I have long predicted, network or affiliate marketing is the future of marketing because it is ideally suited to online shopping and offers an easy way for people to go into business for themselves, as "webpreneurs. " These days it is easy to launch your own website, or set up a network marketing company template site. This makes it easy for families to tap into the almost-effortless e-commerce moneymaking way of life. As affiliate marketing explodes, it not only mirrors but is now driving online retailing. My own "super-hot" affiliate marketing businesses are GanoExcel coffee and FFL gasoline-saver "Gas-Cap" tablets (see links in the left margin). A special advantage enjoyed by e-shoppers is the use of promotional codes that must be entered into the online order form to obtain discount offers. Shutter fly, for example, lets e-shoppers collect promo codes and save/track them in an account, using them later before they expire. Such stored promo codes bring the shopper back for repeat purchases, almost like a loyalty card.
