In today's lecture we talked about different kind of views. The one that was very arguable for me was Divine Command Theory. Based on this argument god determines what's good or bad. What this argument says is, actions are morally obligatory because God commands them and immoral because God prohibits them. I think this argument is invalid because of free will. We understand free will is the will of doing whatever you like without the control of God. If free will were to be true then God has no say in whats good or bad. I also believe this argument is false because it still doesn’t give the premise of God's existence. If God doesn’t exist then theres no one who can say what is good or bad except the law. Today was a bring a friend friday. The purpose of this was so Thad would explain an argument that he believes is sound.

Although this argument is true That really wants to make it fail. He offer students to make counterexamples to the arguments and if they succeed he would praise them with a prize. We were given the definition of luxury which would play a big part of this whole thing. We then had the examples of litmus test and morally relevant difference. In sum this two things meant picking between good and bad, and what is good and bad?

Today students had the option to stay in class or leave. Thad informed us if we left it wouldn’t affect us at all. I decided to stay. After everybody left we got in groups of four and we discussed ways to come up with counter examples for the argument That presented. My group and I were having difficulties coming up with a counterexample. It felt like there was no counterexample to this argument because of the definitions we were given, also because Thad was in the argument it was more personal and it was based more on what Thad believed rather then what others thought.

In today's lecture we went over a summarization of a reading we were assigned last lecture. The reading was named Medical Ghostwriting. This got me thinking if ghostwriting is moral or not moral. A ghost writer is somebody who write something for someone else and they receive credit. In class we were given the example of a publisher that wants to make it big so somebody hands her a writing of medication. Is she wrong or right for this? I believe she is wrong for doing this because its not her own work or research. Now whenever somebody ask her questions about the article she is not going to have any idea how to respond.

Today we went over freedom and determinism. We came to the understanding that every event is already determined so whenever people think they have freedom it's not really freedom because the event is already determined. Determinism is any event is determined ahead of time and freedom/freewill is the ability to do anything you desire. Afterwards we went over The Metaphysical Problem of Free Will. The outcome with this is there is no moral responsibility. This is based on the fact that there’s no free will and in order to have moral responsibility it requires to have free action.

Today we went into more death of The Metaphysical Problem of Free Will. We were given the proposition of 2 and 5 being true. 2 is if an action is determined, then the action is not free. 5 is moral responsibility requires that there is no free action. These were sound and had no problem. We can then reject 2 and say determinism is compatible with free will. You freely perform an action. You want to perform the action. Thus, you perform the action. This proves you are freely and willing to perform any action you want. I would agree on 5 being sound and no way of proving it wrong.

The story went a little like; Smith was rich and Jones killed Smith for the money. Then there was another character by the name Black who influenced Jones on killing Smith for the money. So who really had the guild Jones or Black? I believe Jones has the guild because it was his actions that caused the death of Smith. Jones although he was influenced by Black had the free will of choosing not to follow what Black said and do what he thought was the more better option.

Today we continued The Metaphysical Problem of Free Will. The third reply was to reject 3. 3 is if an action is not determined, then the action is not free. The counterexample was that an action in not determined so the action is free. I believe this is true because my parents grew up in Mexico being very poor and if their future was determined then it was determined for them to stay in Mexico and continue living that life. My parents took action and decided they didn’t want that life anymore and they wanted more for their kids. That’s when they moved to America and their future, my sibling, and mine was changed completely.
