Girls with these eating disorders become so preoccupied with there weight and appearance that they force themselves to vomit or refuse to eat. The explanation is simple girls have the natural desire to be beautiful in every which way. In that desire to be beautiful theres the desire to be thin. Bulimia usually develops during adolescent when a person is extremely sensitive. This disease is most common among teenage girls. This disease is a result of psychological pressures. The most obvious one is the social emphasis, the desire to be slim. One may think they are succeeding in there routine, bingeing and purging. but instead of helping themselves they are hurting themselves.

Anorexia, also known as anorexia nervosa is the fear of becoming obese. This leads to excessive weight loss from restricted food intake and extreme exercise. Between five and eighteen percent of anorexia victims die from starvation. Anorexics take laxatives or diuretics. Anorexia is usually caused by low-self-esteem and depression, or self-conscious about their weight.

Bulimia has very distinct symptoms which are easily recognized. One symptom is binge eating or consuming large amounts of food in a short period of time. Sometimes girls will hide food or even steal if they become desperate. After bingeing they will induce vomiting, which will lead to frequent trips to the bathroom. Soon after vomiting becomes spontaneous. Also an inappropriate use of diet pills such as laxatives and or diuretics.

Anorexia has its own list of symptoms. These symptoms are more noticeable then those of bulimia. Anorexia takes on a more physical change in the body. Weight loss up to twenty-five percent or more will occur first with a noticeable muscle and bone atrophy from loss of fatty tissue. Dental cavities, blotchy or yellowing of the skin, hair loss, from lack of proper nutrition. These are all part of the vicious cycle anorexia takes.

Bulimia has drastic effects on its victims. These victims could develop pancreatitis, a very painful swelling of the pancreas. They could have severe gastrointestinal problems such as constipation. Unhealthy teeth cause from the acid in regurgitated food. A very serious potassium depletion that when repeated self-induced or spontaneous vomiting occurs a person looses bodily fluids and the element potassium. This can adversely effect the way the heart functions which leads to a cardiac arrest or cardiac failure.

Anorexia nervosa victims have a high risk for infection. Lack of food and nutrition slow down the immune system. In six present of all anorexia cases death occurs from complications with this disorder. Abnormal heart rhythms which will stop the sufficient flow of blood to the coronary arteries may cause blood clots. This causes the shock in anorexia cases. And severe malnutrition which causes tooth loss, hair loss, and discoloration of the skin.

These are the cold hard facts of two deadly disorders. These are very serious eating disorders that young women are turning to in order to succeed in their desire to be slim. Although some receive treatment six percent of them do not make it. Even the few that do make it through this period of depression they will still have complications later on. These are two deadly diseases that foolish and depressed teenage girls turn to. Both have there differences but in the end only one drastic event makes them similar, death.
