Anyone who was alive at the time when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated remembers exactly what happened and where they were when they heard the news that he died. That is why I interviewed my parents on where they were and some other events that happened that only people who were alive would know about. I interviewed them on December 5th at my house. I taped it and also showed some clips that my mom taped on an anniversary of his death.

A news station had a special on John F. Kennedy and they showed the old footage of the assassination events and the funeral ceremonies. Before I interviewed my parents I showed when Walter Cronkite, a newscaster, first came on TV and said that President Kennedy was shot and later died. I did that because I wanted everyone to see the emotion and the sadness that he had. It showed history in the making. I also showed a bit of the funeral procession. The coffin was pulled by 6 white horses, 3 of which were riderless in respect to the assassined President. One horse walked behind the coffin and it was also riderless with inverted stirrups and Calvary boots in them. The toes of the boots were facing the rear out of respect. Dignitaries and Heads of the State came to the funeral from all over the world except for Albania and China. When I interviewed my parents they both knew exactly where they were. They were both in school and remember the announcements coming on the P.A. system either from a TV newscast or the radio. Then they heard that he had died. Everyone was silent. No one moved or talked. Then the schools got let out early. and again no one talked on the bus ride home.

My parents also said they were glued to the TV and they watched everything about what had happened. They also saw Lee Harvey Oswald, the man accused of shooting President Kennedy, get shot by Jack Ruby as Lee Oswald was being transferred from the police station. They thought it was kind of ironic that he went to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, the same hospital as President Kennedy was in, and he was treated in an emergency room right across from where President Kennedy died. So in reality, no one really knows who shot John F. Kennedy because Lee Oswald didnit really say that he did it or not. This is still a mystery to us. My mom said that everybody was sad. It didnot matter if you voted for him or not, it didnt even matter if you were a Democrat or Republican, it touched everyone. Basically because he was the first president whose presidency was on v and he was so young and charming. Now that I said everything about my interview, I am going to add some things that led up to or happened when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. On November 22, 1963, the President and his party began a tour in Texas. He gave a speech in Fort Worth, which was his last. President Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline then arrived in Dallas and were in a motorcade along with the Governor of Texas.

They were all waving to the people when 3 shots rang out. One hit Governor John Connaly and the others hit President John F. Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy grabbed a Secret Service Agent for help and he protected Mrs. Kennedy who was holding her wounded husband. The motorcade sped on and the destination was now Parkland Hospital. After President Kennedy was pronounced dead, Lyndon B. Johnson took the oath as the 36th President. President Kennedyis coffin laid in state in the White House in the same spot that President Abraham Lincoln had laid when he was assassinated nearly 100 years before. Many people from all over the world paid their respects to the late President Kennedy. before his body was carried to Arlington National Cemetery where he was buried. Some of the dignitaries who showed up were Charles De Gaule, President of France and Emperor Haile Salassie of Ethiopia. Archbishop Richard Cardinal Cushing led the funeral services. Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy lit an Eternal Light at the head of her dead husbands grave. The time between the assassination and the funeral, November 22, 23, 24, and 25, 1963 was known as the Four Dark Days in History.

I learned a lot of new things when I interviewed my parents. I knew it was a difficult time for everyone, but I didnut know how intense it was. For example, I didnt know that the man accused of killing President John F. Kennedy was shot as well. In conclusion I am glad I got a chance to speak to my parents about this. It made me realize how important he was to everyone and how popular he was.
