Who are you? This is the one question that people ask you when at an interview for a job, when you are meeting new friends, or it's even a question you ask yourself sometimes. I came into my New Student Seminar class knowing who I already was. I realized I knew who I was outside of the education life, but not in the education life.

As we began talking about the new experiences in college, the note taking, and what kind of learner I am, I found out a lot about myself. I learned that I am not the best note taker. I tend to write everything down because I honestly don't know what is important to know and what is not. I am really working on taking good notes. I have been practicing a little bit. I have also learned that I am a hands on learner. I knew this already, but it was good to know that I'm not the only person that learns that way. I know I have to better with my learning skills because not everything I am being taught is a hands on thing.

I also learned that I am not good with managing my time. Whether it's doing homework or even going to sleep. I have a really bad habit of falling asleep around 1 and it affects the way I am when I wake up. Sometimes I wake up with an attitude or sometimes I feel too lazy to get up. I am trying to fall asleep on time by putting a bedtime alarm on my phone, but honestly I feel like that still won't help me. I just need to balance out work, sleep, and play. Where did I come from? This question is a little confusing because there are many ways to answer this question. I came from many different schools.

Altogether I went to 3 public schools, and 2 private schools. In both private schools expectations were too high for me. When thinking about the word private school you think that they are more strict and has better education. All of that is wrong. When I went to these private schools they were strict, but unorganized. I didn't learn anything from 8th grade through sophomore year at the private schools. It wasn't till I went to this public school in Newark that I began to learn a lot of things. When my professor was talking about cornell notes, I immediately knew what he was talking about. I learned how to take cornell notes at my public school because we had to do notes that way.

I honestly hated cornell notes and I started to not do them in school. They were really annoying. I like the way I take notes already, so learning the way they take notes was all confusing to me. If this wasn't what you were asking for then I apologize. I'll give you a little background of where I came from. I come from Irvington, NJ, or some people call it “Dirty Irv”. Irvington is only known for their sports and nothing else. The education there is horrible. This is why my mom never put me in our district school. They love fighting people over there.

It's really crazy because whenever I walk pass the school somebody is always fighting. If I would have went to the high school in Irvington and not the one in Newark, then chances are I wouldn't be here today attending Montclair State University. That is why I am proud that my mother never placed me at Irvington High. Where am I going or what do I want to be? When I grow up I want to have a job that is related in the sports world. Sports is honestly my life. What I learned from Professor Wagner is that t you want to be able to work somewhere that you would enjoy waking up to in the morning.

You don't want to work for a job that you hate. There is no fun in that. I decided to work in the sports world a long time ago. I knew what I wanted to do at the age of 10. I knew that if I wasn't going to make it to the league in basketball, then I needed a backup plan. That's when I did my research on sports management. I am currently taking the major that I always dreamed of. I am happy that I found this major because before I didn't even know it existed. I took this course because sports jobs are starting to get big. I knew that with my knowledge of actually playing a sport and being good at it that I would have no problem becoming a sports agent, marketer, or even manager.

I see big things ahead for myself. Another thing that I learned from my professor and the different people that came to talk to us was to aim high. Dream big. I will forever keep this advice in my head while I journey out into the sports world looking for a job. I thank my professor for that he has taught me about college and life in general.
