Did you know that millions of copies of Anne Frank's - The Diary of a Young Girl, have been sold throughout the world since its original publication in 1947, and has been published in over 50 different languages? Thirteen year old Anne Frank was a very intelligent and affectionate Jewish girl, who lived in the town of Holland, Amsterdam. Anne and her family eventually went into hiding because the Germans would knock on their citizen's doors, take all the Jews, and put them into concentration camps. From my perspective, I believe Anne's diary is worthy of its acclaim for one big reason. As surprising as this may sound, Anne's "diary" was designed into plays, movies, and even museums to honor her life. Wow! Time magazine even chose Anne Frank as one of the top heroes and icons of the 20th century! How amazing is that? I am really astonished that a diary has been made into those three additional formats instead of people reading the actual diary itself. Anne Frank's diary is not for a certain age group, but in fact a book for all ages. It gives us perspective of Nazi, Germany and the Holocaust from someone who directly experienced it. It is a very interesting book and will keep you wanting to read the rest. Many people consider diaries to be long and boring, especially the entries. While this is true, diaries can give you a better understanding of the time period and what people's lives were like. As many of you know, a diary is a daily record usually containing a personal record of events, experiences, and observations. Anne's diary is a very valuable book for many people.

Anne and her family were caught up by the Germans one day and they were trying to escape but apparently that didn't happen. They were taken, placed into concentration camps after the long, strenuous train ride, separated from their families, and placed in one of the two camps (Bergen-Belson and Auschwitz). In this camp, Anne was separated from her father (Pim), and luckily got into the same camp with her sister, Margot. All throughout the camp experience, Anne and her sister were begging for food, in which they never got. All the bacteria eventually caught up to them, and both of them died of Typhous, a disease caused by Rickettsia, characterized by a purple rash, headaches, fever, and usually delirium.
