It was the next day, I had hidden the box under my bed to read every night from then on out. Day one was pretty solid and original. “February 15, 1925. Renton, Washington, wide-open spaces, blue skies. My first day of school and this is my diary. I really wish my mom would come home from work earlier. Some days are better than others. I really wish the kids at school would accept the fact that I’m short and haven’t had my growth spurt. My name is short and stubby just like me. I’m so glad I’m finally trying to be included in a club. I’m thinking the school newspaper club because I’m good at writing ideas down, well time for school. I’ll write tomorrow!” Grandpa Buck really went out on that one. I didn’t know he was short, he must’ve got that growth spurt because Grandpa Buck was the tallest man in the family.

It was a few months before school was ending and I had a project in reading, but we had to name it and my partner had no idea of what the project was for. “I think I’m gonna write about Grandpa Buck’s diary, Blue Dust”. So I did just that. I picked stuff out from my Grandpa Buck’s diary and moved it to the poster. I had read almost all of the pages in the diary, and now I know why Grandpa Buck named his diary “Blue Dust”. Grandpa Buck had a pal, well a dog, that was named Blue Dust. The dog wasn’t blue as I had thought it would be. That’s silly but I was thinking too hard. I finished the poster and was about to present it to the entire seventh-grade reading class first hour. I thought everyone would love it, and in fact I know everyone will. Grandpa Buck is a very inspiring person and would be glad that his granddaughter is spreading his amazing diary, even though it was probably private to him.

His last page would’ve inspired many people to keep moving forward, even if someone tells you that they’re too short or you’re too weak because in all reality, no one is not good enough. “June 22nd, 1925. Well, Blue Dust, my dog, had been running and is now biting my toes. I’m short and made the team but whenever the other boys in my class told me I wasn’t good enough, I kept going and now, I’m better than them. The trick is to never give up, even if it gets too hard. You want yourself to hurt a little and challenge yourself. Blue Dust taught me a very important lesson. He taught me that friendship isn’t just for love and support, friendship is an opportunity, and friendship is a lifetime deal. Once you walk out the door, you’re used to be best friend will be holding the door. So make everything last, and remember words hurt, but Blue Dust can’t talk, even though I wish he could sometimes. He’ll always be my soulmate, and that’s the end of my diary, well until I get a new fresh one.”
