Holi has said to originate in the 4th century based on a poem, The Legend of Holika. The moral of the story was that good always triumphs evil. The tradition of throwing colored powers on loved ones was said to originate from the mythological love story of Radha and Krishna. Holi takes place on the last full moon day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month, typically in March.
