Merriam Websters dictionary defines courage as the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. There are many topics on which I can write about that pertain to the topic of courage. The most recent example would be the infamous terrorist attack on September 11 in which many servicemen gave their lives to help others. That to me is courage. The theme on which I chose to write though is about my mother. She is one of the most courageous people I know. Although she wasnt able to give her life to help others on that tragic day, she has performed many other acts that are considered courageous in my eyes. Signs of courage are to me through all that my mother does.

My mother was born and raised in Korea. She had no earthly idea of who her father was seeing that he died before she was born. She is the eldest of five children. All of which are girls. A sixth sibling, a boy, who would have been older than her, also passed away. Growing up, she had to set the examples and be a good role model for all her sisters. Her watchful eye was always upon her sisters making sure they did not get into any trouble. She excelled in school, but after graduation, was not able to attend college do to the fact of lack of funds. She then became a waitress and that is where she met my father who was stationed there at that time by the army.

They soon were married and moved back to Ohio, which is where my father is from. My mother still not knowing English well, became pregnant with twins, but sadly lost them because of the change in diet and the many stresses of a new place to call home. Korea was again in their plans. While back in Korea, my sister Tanya was born. My father then got transferred from there to what is now our home to begin a new life.

My mother, still not knowing English well, tried her best to make it as great as possible here in our new home for her, my sister, and my father. My mother absorbed all she could from the television for that was the she learned our language. My mother had now acquired enough of the language to go out and get a job. She became a cook at a restaurant. This job will play a big part in her future. Ten years after the birth of my sister, I was born. Although I didnt know it at that time, I was lucky for getting the mother that I had. My parents raised us the best they could, my mother mostly though seeing as my father was gone a lot.

My mother does everything she can for her children and I am truly thankful for that. I admire her greatly for her strong and avid faithfulness in God. At work, she is now the owner and has won the best dining facility in town. She still tries her best in all she does. She pushes her children to their limits to make sure they do the best possible in whatever they attempt. My mother has been through a lot but has never given up and I am thankful for her and all she does.

My mother has done for her family than ever could be asked upon her. She grew up always doing her very best, got married, learned a new language, and raised a family the best way she knew how which was by giving us devoted love and care. She always takes care of us in whatever goes on. Her kind, generous, and motherly ways are good examples she sets that everyone should follow. All effort is given at what ever she does. My mother is a woman that I will always admire greatly for she has done things that take a stupendous amount of courage. I admire my mother greatly for her signs of courage and I hope to pick up on her habits so one day I too can be admired greatly as she is.
