I primarily focused on The Prisoner on the Hell Planet section from Maus: A Survivor's Tale by Art Spiegelman because it contained a lot of information and hidden messages in correspondence to the rest of the story. Looking at just the title, it can be noted that the Artie may have felt that he was an outcast or a victim living in a world that he extremely dislikes. In addition, he is shown to be wearing a prisoner outfit throughout the entire comic. It may have to do with the fact that his parents and entire family suffered throughout the Holocaust; and it may have affected him deeply as he was growing up. Even though his parents were victims, Artie himself wasn't a victim; but the way he grew up might make feel that way. Artie may blame this struggle on his parents, because there is no other possible reason for the way he is.

Throughout the story, it can be observed that Artie did not really get along with his father; but it was until after his mother's suicide that it is revealed that he isn't close with his father at all. In one panel, when it was revealed that his mother passed away, Artie was surprised that his father wanted him to comfort him out of everyone. This shows that Vladek, Art's father, thinks he is close with his son; but in reality, he isn't. I further support this when a friend of the family blames Artie for the suicide of his mother. However, it is difficult to say whether or not Art was close with his mother because of his constant changes in emotions towards his mother. It seems to me that maybe Artie can't decide whether or not he feels guilt or anger towards his parents, and that's why he feels like a prisoner; he won't stop feeling like a prisoner until he is able to decide exactly how he feels.
