Strategic Focus and Plan

Apple plans to market the Ipod Touch not only to Apple gadget afficionados but to other techies that adhere to other gadgets of its competitors. Apple wants to build a market niche for the Ipod Touch for it to garner sales on its first year of release. The thrust of this mission is to showcase the Apple brand state of the art technology.

Industrial Analysis

With the entry of Apple's Ipod touch, Apple's competitors would strive to make innovations that will outlast Apple newest gadget. Market analysts speculate that Apple is already investing on the research and development plan of the Ipod this early. This shows how Apple is very adamant to improve their revenues with their newest product.

Competitive Analysis

Cowon announced today a new portable media player, the Q5W, that sports a touch-sensitive 5-inch high-resolution screen along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Adobe's Embedded Flash Player 7, and easy viewing of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. The device also comes with an optional GPS add-on. Samsung recently released the P2, a simpler device with some similar features, and both seem to be in response to (or anticipation of, since these things take a while to plan) the entrance of the Iphone and Ipod Touch into the market ( Tom Gideon, PCmag.com)

Company Analysis

Apple's newest innovation is set to outlast its competitors with similar gadgets to that of the Ipod Touch. In order to this, Apple is considering a a massive advertising campaign that will outlast Ipod Touch's predecessor – The Iphone. The massive advertising campaign will contradict the fact that the Ipod touch is scarce and stores only carry a handful of units that they can sell to consumers.
Customer Analysis

Kevin O'Brien, a student who reviewed the Ipod Touch has this to say: “My initial view of the Ipod touch was very optimistic. I knew it had almost all the features I had been searching for in a mobile device; large capacity, beautiful touch screen, and most importantly an interface that didn't lag. Many devices to date have been able to hit a few of those key points, but either they failed on some parts, or the price was so high my pocket book wouldn't consider it.” (Kevin O'Brien, Apple iPod touch Review)

SWOT Analysis of  Apple Ipod Touch

Strengths

·         It's a pseudo iPhone without the phone and that annoying phone service contract and without e-mail messaging).

·         The 3.5-inch multitouch screen, which made a significant ruckus out of people who tested the iPhone when it came out earlier this year.

·         Touch screen has a pinch-and-squeeze touch-screen interface, which is great for watching videos and viewing photos. This enables the owner to appreciate it

Ipod Touch is a hand-held computer per se. It's more than a PDA and has WiFi capabilities.
Weaknesses

·          A major loophole in this gadget is you never get to exceed this iPod’s processing capabilities.

·          Ipod Touch's programs were designed and aimed to work under certain terms.

·         All third-party software has been deliberately locked out which makes some programs inaccessible.

Opportunities

l  Though software on the iPod touch is limited, it appears to be very well thought out. Each application loads without lag and delays. Apple can consider coming up with programs accesible not only to its consoles but to other consoles and PC's from its competitors as well.

l  The Ipod Touch will eventually have additional gadgets that will augment its capabilities. Apple is bent on making this product better than the Iphone.

Threats

§ Apple's Ipod Touch is in the brink of duplication due to the fact that Samsung and several competitors have laid their cards as well. Samsung is also adamant to outlast the Ipod Touch, Their strategy is to let Apple make the first move then comes up with a better gadget that Apple will release. That has been the case for Ipod Touch.

§  Apple's Ipod Touch is vulnerable as well. Like other gadgets it becomes obsolete. This gives a plethora of opportunities for competitors to outlast the Ipod Touch despite its strengths as a gadget. An in-house model that a fellow reviewer had purchased did not have any dust defects, but instead had a nice stuck white pixel on the screen. 0/3 so far trying to find a “perfect condition” brand new iPod Touch.
