Words in general, are just mind boggling, it’s crazy. I believe a large amount of poets come from a dark place, and write to help cope, but also to connect and help a group of people going through the same thing. I envy that. I feel a strong connection with what I read, and I think that’s why I chose poetry instead of a normal Fiction novel. I’ve read about 850 pages of poetry these last few weeks, and, it really opens your eyes to see how much emotion can be conveyed through 8 simply written lines.

The author, R.H. Sin often uses questions to connect with the reader. For example he said “Who took your virginity, with meaningless compliments, and a love that wasn’t genuine.” You start to, really think about that when you read it, which is what he wants, he wants you to feel something. This author in particular was very good at writing something people could relate to. The author talks about his love storys, the bright, and the dark times, and the times he was debating on giving up.

Another book I read was Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. I really loved the art style in this book. Every other page had a piece of drawing, to illustrate a small meaning to the poem beside it. The book was split up into 4 different chapters it seemed, each chapter being a different Moral. For example, Love, Hate, Pain, and Loss. My favorite was the last chapter, which seemed to me as if it was Violence and Abuse, but it was mentally. It seemed as if she (The Writer) was being tortured mentally by her so called “Lover” by playing mind games with her. She was cheated on and lied to, which is the abuse part, and the Violence, was her being yelled at often. The author explainer her feelings for the man causing her the pain, her love for him, and everything he’s done for her, but also wrote a few poems degrading him for his short temper and his unreasonable violent tendencies

I read Take Me With You, by Andrea Gibson. Andrea seemed to feel strongest in heartbreak, and gender identification. This book was a little more scattered all over the place then the others ones. Andrea talked about today's political standpoints, problems with the president, and the government's corruption. Andrea also talks about, being misgendered while in high school, and goes into depth about this in the book.

The reason I decided to read poetry instead of a novel, is because I love listening, or reading something I can feel, and relate to. In the first book of the Whiskey Words and a Shovel series, There is a poem that read “And so I suppress these feelings with whiskey, I bury you with my words, then cover what we were, with words” Something like that is super powerful, and cuts down to the heart. I can assume the poem is about a significant other, specifically the girl he confesses his love for at the beginning of the book, named Samantha KIng.

Another poem I thought was very impactful was from Andrea Gibson, it reads “I am already building a museum for every treasure you unearth in the rock bottom” I think this poem expresses early love for another. I found it interesting how the author, used the term treasure, and museum, as ways of defining memories.

I highly recommend any of the poetry books i read, especially Whiskey Words & a Shovel Volume 1. I think this book was the most relatable, and also had the highest page count out of the other books. R.H. Sin did a very great job of connecting, and making the reader feel something. I love that about him. I think it’s important that a poet speaks straight from the heart, and tells the honest truth. The author told a few stories of mistakes, he made personally, instead of throwing all the blame on his significant other, which I envy. I think there is a lot to learn about other people's relationships, and mistakes made in them.
