It is unbelievable how our society lacks knowledge of the products being bought in grocery stores. A source stated 3 out of 4 Americans are obese or overweight which is just mind blowing. It is very sad how our society has developed over the time getting worst to the point we are being fooled everywhere we go. The government and the society share a 50/50 with the issue of obesity.

Children who hope to live a happier life are being fooled by their own parents and those same parents are being fooled by the government. It is such a big disaster of how food is being promoted just for businesses to profit from it even though the products this food companies are producing are toxic. For instance, the companies that are putting too much sugar in their products are harming people’s health. However, each human being decides voluntarily what to buy in grocery stores.

Furthermore, the parents have the responsibility to guide their children how to maintain their health. There has been a research study that kids in the age of 6 to 14 face the development stage of starting to be influenced by their parents. Therefore, it is very important parents discipline their children in a young age. Many parents are not doing correctly their job in guiding their children what a calorie really is or what unhealthy ingredients in consuming can be unsafe. So many parents or guardians are not being informed correctly of what is healthy such as in the “Fed Up” film who are literally killing their own kids with the food they are buying. For example, Maggie Valentine has been trying to lose unnecessary weight by taking swimming classes, running, and trying to eat healthy. For her to eat healthy she relies on her mother to provide healthier food.

However, her mother does not really do any research how to truly eat healthier instead she just relies based on what the label of the product states. Maggie’s mother thinks cereal is healthier because it says low fat and because it has a lot of fiber, but she does not realize cereal is actually making Maggie gain weight. It is the responsibility of the parents to read the ingredients because a label can literally sugar code anything. Maggie is doing everything in her power to become healthier but the meals her mother is providing is making her gain weight. Parents are buying family size chips, cookies or sodas that have too much sugar.

Nevertheless, the government also has the fault for the increasing rates of obesity. The government should not allow companies to lie in their products such as stating cereal or chips are healthy when it really isn’t. The government is tricking the people to think everything is healthy which has led to obesity. The government is not educating families to eat more organic food. The government is in control what the country provides which represents how the society will be developing. The government is allowing companies to convert fat to large amounts of sugar in products.

The government’s role in the food industry Is setting up safety food standards. The government should be checking the labels of each product that it clearly states every detail about the product, and not putting healthy or low fat in every product that does not meet the healthy standards. Also, it should always inspect the food to make sure the food is not harmful. The main job of the government is to focus on educating the society about food by books, ads or magazines. If the government would actually do its job no one would be unhealthy instead everyone would be eating veggies and consume less of carbs. In addition, the government has a major role in nutrition.

Our government should have marketing boundaries such as limiting advertisement on food and beverages that are unhealthy. Also, the government is responsible to provide healthy food in pubic schools for the students. Students eating pizza, nachos, hotdogs or enchiladas is not going to resolve the issue of obesity. How do the teachers expect a student to be focus in class after lunch when the student has eaten junk food? Our government should protect their people’s interest and health from what we are consuming. Have lower prices on healthier food rather on junk food.

To resolve this issue of obesity the government should promote healthier habits, and the parents should educate their children on wiser food decisions. The power to make a difference in our generation is based on the government and the society.
