The Diary of Anne Frank
The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett is a play about hope and bravery. It is July 1942 Anne Frank, Mr. Frank, Mrs. Frank, Margot Frank, Peter Van Daan, Mrs. Van Daan, and Mr. Van Daan go into hiding. Anne Frank received a diary from Mr. Frank and she would write in her diary whenever she could when in hiding. They all are Jews in WWII during the Holocaust. The Holocaust is a genocide during WWII that took out ? of the jews in Europe. The Holocaust happened between 1941 through 1945. The Jews are either killed or sent to a camp if they are found during this time. Anne Frank is 13 years old and she family went into hiding. When she first is in hiding, she met Peter (who was 16 years old at the time) and his family. They are hidden by Miep and Mr. Kraler who came over once a day to go get the things the Franks and Van Danes wanted.
They asked for things like books, food, cigarettes, and Etc. During work hours (8am to 6pm) the Van Dans and Franks had to be quite until work hours were over. During this time the children would learn and work on school work. There is a part in the story where Anne decided to mess with peter. At first Peter isn't too fond of Anne and thinks she is annoying and loud. Peter is a character who didn't have many friends before he went into hiding and he got annoyed easily. He has a cat named Mochi which goes missing because he has to put him outside when Mr. Dussel is allergic to cats. Anne shares everything in her diary, she once shares about when her mom and her got into an argument. She also shares in her diary what all she did her her day. Anne and her mom were very different. Mrs Frank was quiet and never shared opinion while Anne would share everything she thought. There was a big part in the play when Anne gets into a very big argument with her mother.

The argument is over when Mrs.frank asked Anne to be more like Margot. This made Anne mad and caused Anne to say things she didn't mean. Her mom also felt bad not only with what Anne said but what she said to Anne. The town where this all took place was Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The town was invaded by Nazis drom Germany. The jews had to wear a yellow star everywhere to tell people they were Jews and if they did not have the start in there would be consequences. In the play peter rips of his yellow star, which makes anne upset at first until she realizes she doesn't need to yellow star any more. Peter and anne had a complicated relationship. Toward the end of the play Anne and peter grow a romantic relationship. They would go on little dates in each others rooms and get all dressed up. The family would live in constant fear. They were all sitting in the living room when they heard a crash from downstairs. They all got confused because it wasn't a work day so they all rushed to turn off the lights quietly.
Peter stood on top of a stool to turn off a light and fell. There was a loud crash and then everything went to silence. 'The family had always had hope that one day they would be freed and the d-day would come. Anne always hoped that she could go back and be with her friends and go back to school. There hope was all they really had at certain points. It was the 4th of August of 1944 when the Natzies found Anne and her family. The all were either killed or in concentration camps. It was a sad ending, but it was overall a very good script.
