According to the NCES(National Center of Education Statistics), the average GPA is a 3.0. This means that the average grade in every single class is a B (83-85). Nowadays students want to strive for greatness and go for the best college. So how do we do that? How do we make our students strive for greatness? It is quite simple. First, we need to take into consideration all types of students. The procrastinators, hard workers, the lazy etc. In the end, they all have something in common. They all want the best grades and apply to the best college. Now to take action in Palmer Trinity school, we need to do something to make this happen, thus this idea arises, Personal Learning Time first period. Personal Learning Time has received extremely positive results, people are working and using their time in this study hall, seeking extra help from teachers.

But there is only one minor problem. This problem is we have PLT 3rd period, this means we have two classes before our study hall. If we had it first this gives students the time to seek extra help before a quiz or a test first period. It also helps the teachers, there is no teacher that does not want to see their students succeed. This has the positive effect that the grades rise and students get to focus more on the class. Another positive effect is that students because of this get a more stress-free life. They have time to work on homework at school right before any class starts. If students are too tired and they don't have Homework then they can take a 45-minute rest before school giving them more energy throughout the day.

PLT has had some incredible effects on students and it really has helped the majority of the students. There are also several positive results from other schools that study halls have shown. Here are some actual people who have had study halls and used them efficiently, student Kayla Pendland said: “I would be more prepared and would get more done if we had an extra study period.” (Jefferson Morgan). Another excellent example of an effective study hall is one given to us by Victoria Kerns who wrote this article by A grade ahead; “ California whose principal was concerned about the large proportion of missing homework assignments he saw. He put the counselor in charge of communicating with parents, he assigned teachers to before- and after-school study sessions, and he hired a part-time employee to enter data about students’ homework completion.

Within a few months, he saw a rise in average GPA by half a point, an increase in honor roll students from 32% to 50%, and a significant improvement in the morale of his teachers.”. (Kerns Victoria). This is more evidence to prove study halls raise students grades. Another great example of the effects of study halls is one give to us by David Chambers, principal of a school in Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High School; “ Reaction to the mandatory homework policy and study halls has surprised Chambers. Many students have been very positive about the program; they seem to like the added incentive to complete their homework. The average GPA increased immediately by almost half of a grade point, and even the performance of the honor students improved.” (Chambers David). To conclude there are several pieces of evidence showing that study halls are effective and first-period PLT could really help the students succeed in their High School Career. This article was written to argue that PLT should be changed because it can be used more effectively.
