When you think of values what comes to your mind? When looking at the core values list, the five values that stood out to me the most were individuality, loyalty, resilience, honesty, and balance. These values stand out for many reasons.

The first value I chose was individuality. The definition of individuality reads as follows: "the quality or character of a particular person or thing that distinguishes them from others of the same kind, especially when strongly marked." The reason individuality is important to me is because I believe you should always stay true to who you are. We as humans have come as far as we have because there have been individuals willing to present new ideas, mindsets, and weren't afraid to question the current beliefs of society. Individuality goes with the Air Force core values in my opinion. You must have integrity to be yourself instead of just pretending to be someone you are not for the sake of not standing out. Also, having excellence in all we do as individuals has helped to sculpt the current the Air Force.

The second value that grabbed my attention was loyalty. To be loyal is to be unwavering in allegiance or support. Loyalty is important to me because it is a key factor in having a strong bond. Loyalty compares to the service before self as it requires loyalty to the military and the country to accomplish. One must be loyal to the cause to be willing to lay down their life for it.

Resilience was the third of the values that resonated with me. Resilience is the ability to recover from difficulties. Life can be hard and unforgiving thus resilience is necessary to stand up and continue after being knocked down by life which is why it is important to me. Service before self is the Air Force core value that I would compare most to resilience because they go hand in hand. One must be resilient enough to deal with stress of all kinds to deploy, work long hours, and be away from family and friends for extended periods of time.

Honesty is the fourth of the values that stood out. Honesty means to be free of deceit or morally correct. Honesty is important to me because I believe trust and loyalty are built on it and honesty is a key piece to be a leader. Honesty is comparable to integrity as it is in integrity's definition. Honesty is needed to be able to do what is always right regardless of being alone or otherwise.

The final value that I chose was balance. Balance is important to me because in life you must balance everything. You must balance your work life, your personal life, your social life, your time, your money, etc. Without finding the correct balance your life can go awry and can lead to misfortune. I feel balance can contrast with service before self because you have to give more than an equal share of your time and life to the military. But I feel it compares well with integrity first because you have to be honest with yourself to see you are devoting too much time to your personal life than your work life or vice versa.

Regarding alignment I believe the chosen values are aligned with the Air Force core values. I don't believe any of the values go against the Air Force core values. If anything, I feel the chosen values help me stayed aligned with the core values. Honesty will keep my integrity in check. Loyalty to the military when service before self is in question. Finally, resilience helps me to keep at it despite failures or hardships to express excellence in all we do.

In conclusion, the values I have chosen, and feel are important to me are individuality, loyalty, resilience, honesty, and balance. I also believe my values are aligned with the Air Force core values.
