Jonathan Edwards Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God was one of the most revolutionary sermons of its day. Mr. Edwards style of preaching was very effective in getting these wicked people to repent of their evil. Although Edwards form of teaching was very pessimistic and discouraging, it got the message across to the people. Since it was settled, the United States has been slowly turning away from God and looking to themselves and to other religions for peace.

The time has come that this country is chastised for its sins and is turned back to God. Edwards started out his sermon by telling the people about how evil they are and how they are going straight to hell. He makes it sound as though there is no way out of this terrible mess that the people had gotten themselves into. After making sure that all present were sure of eternal damnation, Edwards mentions a light, a hope. Jesus Christ. After hearing all that they had, the people went running to Christ for salvation.

Although this Fire and Brimstone form of preaching was very dark and scary, it did the job. The people of the time were falling away from God and turning to other things. Today, just like back then, the people of the world are falling away from God. It seems like today more and more tings are becoming tolerable to our society.

There are a lot of preachers who do not preach with authority these days. It is great that preachers are teaching the with Jesus everything is going be alright, but more pastors need to preach the Fire and Brimstone method to, if anything, scare people into believing in Christ. Lord knows that there is more than a multitude of things to reprimand our society on, an this is a perfect opportunity to convert the people to Christ. Now is the perfect time for people to be told about Jesus. The people of the world right now are looking for spiritual enlightenment and they will suck up anything that they think sounds like it will give them peace.

One would think that Edwards form of preaching would scare away more people than it drew to Christianity. On the contrary, it actually drew many people to the faith early. Unfortunately these people did not have support after they found Christ, so in turn, they slowly fell away from the faith. If the fire and brimstone method is to be taught, the people who are drawn to Christ must have adequate support to keep their faith.

Edwards form of preaching was very different from what anyone had ever heard, and it worked very well at bringing people to Christ. Maybe what the world today needs is not so much fire and brimstone, but something that is revolutionary, something theyve never heard before. People today have heard it all and it is nothing new to them, what the people need is something that will rock their world, something that they dont see coming.

Edwards was a great preacher, and his development of the Fire and Brimstone form of preaching did a lot to further the ministry in this country. That form of preaching may not be exactly what the world needs to day, but something as new and different as what he did, would turn our world around.
