My World View: A Brief Summary

My view of the world has been shaped by many people and events over the seventeen years of my life. Many of these people and events are from earlier in life, but some have become significant recently. To give a brief summary of my world view, I will only mention a few things that shaped it: my immediate family and extended family from my Father's side, an uncle from my Mother's side, a musical artist, my friends, and the internet.

As I'm sure it would be expected, my family has contributed to much of how I see the world because I have learned a lot of lessons from all members. My Grandmother taught me to be as helpful toward others as possible because we (my immediate family) lived with her for four years. Even though it was two kids smaller at the time, it was genuinely a major contribution to how i see the world because I try my best to be helpful, especially to people that I know personally.

Another thing I learned growing up was to be patient with others and to think before I speak. This mainly came from growing up as the oldest child, one of four, where my actions were almost always replicated by my brothers. I didn't' see it until it was too late to fix, but my brother Jeremiah, the second oldest, ended up basically the same way I did: smart but lazy at the same time. I may not be able to fix my mistakes, but there is still a lesson to learn from them.

My Father's side of the family has had more of an impact on my world view solely because my Mother's side of the family resides almost completely in Texas with the exception of her Mother and my uncle, Troy. Troy is only 6 months younger than me and because of this he essentially grew up as a brother to me. He has impacted my world view in the sense that he formed my open mind. He introduced me to things I wouldn't have tried otherwise (legal and illegal, I'll be honest), and this has affected me because I am still open to try new things in life, which I feel is an important trait to have when going off to college where there will be more opportunities for pretty much anything.

Similar to having an open mind toward life, I also have an open mind toward the music I listen to. I listen to a variety of musical genres, but one artist that I feel has contributed the most to how I view the world is Logic. Logic tends to rap about trends in the world and stays true to his roots, which has affected me because I don't try to change myself to satisfy others. One song on his most recent album also talks about how a career shouldn't be chosen for its salary, but because you find it enjoyable; another thing that I feel is important to understand in life especially going off to college.

Out of all the people in my life, I have learned some of the most important lessons from my friends Derrick and Max. I have many friends but I consider them to be among the few true friends that I have; friends who constantly help each other out in a time of need, who keep each other in line, and who can have a laugh together. Unlike my family, who I am basically obligated to love, my friends are people that I chose to love in a brotherly way. Through this, I learned loyalty because we have been together since freshman year and I'm sure the bond will last past college. As I also mentioned in class, Max tends to make us all look bad through what h says or does, but this has taught me to not care about the opinion of others; at the end of the day opinions will not change my way of thinking or how I live my life.

The internet has contributed to my world view in its own type of way because it has been negative and positive. The internet is meant to be a communication device that allows a rapid spread of information. It does its job very well, but sometimes it is for the worse. The internet is a place where people can freely and publicly express their opinions and ideas, but this often causes me to have varying views on humanity in general. I'm sure everyone has had their own run-ins with stupidity on the internet, but given the amount of time and where I spend that time on the internet I feel like I have seen more than my fair share of it. The place I spend most of my time on the internet, besides the typical computer access, is on Xbox, which is why my view varies so much and so rapidly. It's common to come across other players who are helpful and friendly and who's goal is to make Xbox Live a better place overall.

However, it is also common to come across the stereotypical twelve year old who constantly claims to have slept with your mother or the stereotypical southerner shouting racial slurs in chat (I kid you not, this is actually a thing), although I don't let my experience with these types of people dictate my view of the world entirely; I tend to take it with a grain of salt. A benefit of the internet is that you don't necessarily have to show your face. This simple aspect of the internet tends to get to people's heads, causing them to act in ways that they wouldn't act in real life. This is entirely understandable, it is the internet after all.

My world view is a sum of all my experiences and all the lessons I have learned from the people in my life. Although this wasn't an entire sum, it is a collection of some of the more important contributions to my world view.
