In sixty to seventy percent of all foods in our grocery stores contain genetically modified ingredients. Due to the fact that genetically modifying foods can feed more people and cut down on costs, because genetically modified foods need fewer herbicides and insecticides, is genetically modifying foods a good idea? Is it safe? The basic concept of genetically modifying foods is that basically, the people pick the traits and basically tell the plant what it’s going to look like, how it’s going to taste, etc. But the question remains is it safe for my family to eat? In my opinion, it is not safe because the risks outweigh the benefits of safety Genetically modified food and crops are still being produced and eaten by us everyday even though: there is little scientific studies about their health risks, they can carry toxins, and may increase the risk of allergic reactions. Above all it could hurt our ecosystem because the increased use of herbicides could diminish habitats for farmland birds and other species.

Therefore, it will cause more and more habitats to be destroyed because of all the chemicals in the herbicides used on genetically modified foods. A final reason why genetically modified foods can potentially hurt us is it could potentially change the nutrient content of the foods and crops being genetically modified. This can either be a good or bad thing because if the nutrients are higher clue to genetically modifying I am all for it, if not then is could potentially harm us without anyone even knowing. With genetically modified food a study showed that some of the nutrients in a genetically modified tomato had fewer nutrients than one grown naturally without anything being modified.

It may be able to feed more people but could potentially hurt our bodies because we are not getting the nutrients we need from the foods we eat every day, That is to say that we should say no to genetically modified fruits and veggies and say yes to nutrient-rich and organic fruits and veggies. The fact remains that no matter what the things we eat daily like fruit, vegetables, chips, cereals; etc will have genetically modified ingredients. As above I have proved that genetically modified food is unsafe and unhealthy for our families to eat and can very bad consequences. In closing try not to eat genetically modified foods do some research on the food we eat everyday and come to the conclusion that it has unwanted side affects to us and to the environment.
