Being a victim of any ordeal is quite devastating. Gun violence is a recent phenomenon that has affected the United States of America and other countries that allow for gun possession among the citizens. Fortunately, I have not been a victim of gun violence. However, not every person has been as lucky. For instance, a friend of mine became a victim recently. My friend was partying with her colleagues when events turned soar. A middle-aged man emerged out of nowhere to fire indiscriminately at the revelers. Most of the people injured themselves as they scampered for safety. Worse still, two of the revelers lost their lives after sustaining serious gun shots.
Healthcare workers play a significant role in aiding the human course. Their profession entails taking care of the ill in the society. In addition, healthcare workers are integral towards the promotion of healthy living. By virtue of this view, healthcare workers have a role to play in reducing violence. Healthcare workers can lobby organizations to sensitize the public on the dangers of violence. In addition, health care workers can advise law enforcers to take stern action against those people who commit crimes against humanity by engaging in violence. Based on this establishment, healthcare workers are well placed to help the society overcome the problem.
The debate on the extension or owning of firearms remains largely controversial (Appelbaum & Swanson, 2013). On the one hand, there are people who believe that firearms should be reserved for law enforcers or policemen owing to their training. On the other hand, there are people who believe that mature individuals should have firearms for purposes of self-defense. In the recent past, the misuse of firearms has been on the rise. People with mental illnesses are perceived to be among those who misuse firearms. In this regard, banning them from accessing and owning firearms should be considered.
