For many years, women did not have the same rights or privileges as men. Today women have the right to vote, and have same basic rights as men. Susan B. Anthony is one of America important civil rights leaders who fought for women rights. She has paved the way of American life today, and changed our country dramatically. Because of her, both women and men have the right to vote. Susan B. Anthony has impacted our life today by showing us that we can be equal and women can have their rights. Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts.

She had eight brothers and sisters, and was the second of nine children. At three years old, Susan learned how to read and write. At six, she had moved to Battenville, New York. During this time she had to go to a district school. At the school, a teacher declined to teach Susan long division because she was female. Because of this problem, Daniel Anthony, Susas father, decided to home school Susan and teach her himself.

In 1837, at the age of 17, Susan was sent to Deborah Moulins Female Seminary, a Philadelphia boarding school. Her family moved to Hardscrabble, New York when she was 19 because of panic and economic depression. To pay off her father debt, she left home to teach at Eunice Kenyon Friend Seminar, which was in New Rochelle. Her first job encouraged her to fight for equal wages as the male teachers, because they earned four times more than women did, although they did the same amount of work. At the age of 29, Susan stopped teaching and moved to Rochester, New York where their family farm was located. She volunteered in conventions and gatherings, such as the temperance movement.

Susan B. Anthony first attended a women rights convention in 1852. She then attempted to bring together the African American and women rights movements. Frederick Douglass, a friend of Susan, were both on the counter sides of a debate on equal rights of blacks and women right to suffrage for the first time. This was because they wanted to give liberties to black men, and not women. After this, Susan and Elizabeth Cady Stanton decided to form a national suffrage organization. They named this the National Women Suffrage Association, or NWSA, committed to increasing women freedoms. In 1873, Susan went up against the Supreme Court to have women rights. At the trial, she made her famous On Women Rights to Vote speech. The judge made her pay a one-hundred dollar fine, but she never paid it, because she did not think she deserved the consequence.

Later, the creations of Susan books, The History of Women Suffrage, were written with four volumes in New York from 1884 to 1889. In 1900, Susan B. Anthony retired NWSA, but that was the only thing that informed us about women rights. On March 13, 1906 Susan B Anthony died at the age of 86. In remembrance, she was honored the first American woman who face was on the Susan B. Anthony dollar.

The size of a quarter, but was only minted for four years of 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1999. All in all, Susan B. Anthony has impacted our life today by showing us that we can be equal and women can have their rights. She has made dramatic changed in our world today. She has made it so today all women can have their rights to vote, get paid the same amount as men do, and much more. If Susan or other American civil rights leaders did not help, the world would not be how it is today. From February 15, 1820 to March 13, 1906, we will always remember Susan B. Anthony: suffragist, and women rights advocate.
