Following all the online abuse that women go through every day, Ashley Judd’s 16-minute TED talk deployed rhetorical devices that connected emotionally and logically amongst its audience. TED talks are full of information, educational tips, and advice. Specialists and other experts are given the opportunity to talk about their innovations and experiences to a crowd of professional listeners. To give a successful talk, the speaker must have the ability to keep their audience interested throughout the talk with some visual aids and examples. Ashley Judd, who spoke against online abuse on social media, talks about her experiences as a victim of online abuse.

Her purpose was to spread this issue among people so that they come up of a solution to make an environment for women in which they feel secure. She started a website called the “Speech Project” which provides a standardized list of definitions to learn the right way to say things. instead of, giving a hate speech. There are about 1,000 -1.200 people as the audience attending the TED conference. They come from a bunch of different fields like medicine, tech, design, entertainment, business, science, law, etc., and people traveling from different countries to attend. The audience is seated in front of the stage in a half-symmetrical circle. Also, professional dressing is seen throughout the crowd. The lights on top of the crowd are dimmed enough to only view their expressions and outfits. The audience looked quite delved and interested in the talk as they clapped at various intervals of Ashley’s discussion. As the talk ended, everybody showed respect to Ashley with a standing ovation with claps to show support on her ideas and thoughts on the online abuse of women.

Ashley Judd expressed her topic on basis of emotions, logic, and facts. Her topic of how online abuse messes up woman’s mental stability and how it affects across the globe in increasing numbers is surfaced to show what women go through every day and every second. She provides such examples to prove her point on this topic. Ashley Judd’s tone changes at different points in her speech. She convinces her audience that “online misogyny is a global gender rights tragedy, and it is imperative that it ends”. Online abuse against women has gotten too far. More so, the sort of violence makes an unfriendly online environment with the point of disgracing, scaring or shaming women. Ashley includes in her talk about how she pays someone to scrub her social media’s heinous hate speech. She does this to relieve herself from the ongoing mental torture and to give a break to her brain. She went through a lot of online abuse and people commenting or messaging her how horrible she is and all sorts of inappropriate stuff.

After all the abuses Ashley went through, she had a thought in her mind that “is that really her?' She describes in her talk that, “what is seen goes in. It’s traumatic. And I was always secretly hoping in some part of me that was being said to me about me wasn’t … true”. Taking many forms of online abuse, she doubted herself that if she is a bad human being or not. Suicidal issues bring up when a person goes through depression or has wrong thoughts about himself. In this stage, Ashley Judd showed bravery to stand up for herself and for all other women in the world who experiences this daily torture.

According to statistics, “96 percent of all posting of sexual images of our young people … girls” is constrained to their ability of work. “Online searches of women applying for jobs reveal nude pictures of them, false allegations they have STDs, their addresses indicating that they are available for sex” are all examples of women losing their productivity at work and in their workplace. Women’s mental health is so gravely affected that they start losing their self-confidence.
