Nutrition is the science of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, and overall health of a person. A key aspect of Nutrition is what a person’s diet consists of, which is largely determined by the availability of foods. Nutrients can be grouped as either macronutrients or micronutrients. The seven major classes of human nutrients are, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, minerals, proteins, vitamins, and water. In humans, an unhealthy diet can cause deficiency related diseases such as blindness and on the other end, nutrient excess can cause health threatening conditions such as obesity. Under extreme circumstances, common chronic systematic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, and diabetes occur from over intaking foods. Whereas undernutrition can lead to chronic cases of malnutrition.

Initial Thoughts

Before putting all of the moving parts of this assignment in place, I made the decision to start a serious diet plan that moved towards burning a lot of fat and resulted in losing a large amount of weight. I hired a personal nutrition coach for advice at the beginning of this year and have been following the same meal-prep plan everyday for the past two months. My diet is the same everyday, which is definitely bland at times, but I am happy with the path I’ve chosen.

What I Learned

For this assignment, I learned what factors played in to the loss of my weight and how the different level of amounts of nutrients affect the body. Carbohydrates are an essential macronutrient that are needed to acquire energy for the body to use. In my case, we wanted to use the fat on my body as an energy source, so a lowered amount of carbohydrate intake was necessary. Proteins are the building blocks of regenerating and repairing the cells of a body. In short, proteins are used to build muscle and in my case I had a large intake amount of proteins in my diet due to that wee wanted to replace fatty tissue on my body with lean muscle. Even though the whole point of my diet is to reduce my body fat amounts, I still need fats in my diet to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is crucial that natural fats are consumed in my diet such as fats from meat. Bad fats that must be avoided are what I call artificial fats, but are known as saturated and trans fats.

Concluding Remarks

This assignment was a great way to organize my diet plan and a good way to put reasons behind the items I eat along with a reason behind the amounts of each food source. Before I started this diet I did not pay attention to what I ate and as I grew older I began to notice that my body was not reacting to food as it did when I was younger. This meal-prep diet has been very beneficial to my life and has been more beneficial to see why and how things happen when a person makes adjustments to their daily food lifestyle.

Personal Consumption Analysis

From the information I learned and researched, I realized in what ways my body is reacts to the lower amounts of certain amounts of macronutrients and the increased amounts of proteins. Overall, the lack of bad elements that most people consume has made my body stronger when fighting against illness and other diseases.

Application to Body Composition

Although my body composition is a bit high in fatty tissue, I do believe I am on track to a healthy lifestyle and a fairly in shape body. I will continue to follow this diet plan and with the knowledge I have gained from this assignment, I will use it to better communicate with my fitness coach.
