Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the experience of long-term anxiety with no explanation. Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder come from six major systems of the body. They include the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, and nervous systems. The most likely symptoms that occur are raised blood pressure, butterflies in the stomach, hyperventilation, trembling of the body and felling on edge.

There are different perspectives on the causes of anxiety disorders. They come from the medical (biological), behavioral, and cognitive models. In the medical model it is thought that this disorder is genetic. It relates directly to the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin. The behavioral model suggests that the causes come from environmental factors. It is believed that anxiety is a learned response. The cognitive model says that the anxiety is based on how people think about the world. So there are different causes for this disorder and each individual case is different.

Treatments of Generalized Anxiety Disorder can be done many different ways. Some people say that systematic tensing and relaxing of muscle groups works even without medication or psychological counseling. Meditation, yoga, and/or massage can help tremendously. Cognitive therapy can reduce anxiety by giving individuals the skill to assess situations more realistically. Medication has also been proven effective.

A real life case study that I could talk about could be myself. When I was younger I suffered from major anxiety. I would worry about anything and everything. My main worry though, was death. I would think about something bad happening all the time and try to avoid situations where there was a potential of me getting hurt in some way or another. Any time anything remotely upsetting happened I would get to the point where I got sick. When I was in middle school I would have episodes of hyperventilation and panic attacks. I was always stressed out about things that shouldnt have worried me. But for a while I didnt suffer any symptoms. But when I got into 10th grade I started getting the symptoms back. Anytime I would go anywhere or be in a situation where there was a potential for me to get in trouble I would get sick to my stomach and have to go home. When I went into crowded places I would have panic attacks. So it got to where I didnt go anywhere for a long ti!

me. But then in the summer I started pursuing my singing dream. I knew that the only way I would be able to ever be a singer was to get over my anxiety. So I pushed myself and did various singing acts.

I was always so worried about what people would think of me. I did get sick before I did my acts, but I still got up there and focused on my singing and made it through each time. And now, since I have done all those acts I am more comfortable, and more carefree and done get as anxious anymore. I mean, I do get anxious sometimes because it will never go totally away, but it is normal to have some anxiety. So I am going to live day by day and not worry about petty little things in life. Because I want to live the best life I possibly can and not let this disorder destroy me.

In conclusion Generalized Anxiety Disorder can be major. It can take control of your entire life, and not let you focus on the important things in life. My advice would be to anyone who has it to face your worries head on and relax. I know its not as easy as it sounds believe i've been there. But I finally had enough of not having control of my life. Now finally I have control, at least enough.
