When the plan is appropriate and the user is determined towards realizing the goals, he becomes disciplined in the sense that he will not nothing outside the plan set. A plan is like a constitution that when broken, the remedies become inevitable.

Moreover, personal strategic plan creates accountability. Good accountability leads to better performance. Accountability in the personal plan makes one become responsible for anything he does. For examples a manager who follows the plan consistently and is determined raises more production, high quality, better services and large profit margin as opposed to the manager who is relaxed to adhere to the plan set.

A plan is like a mirror too. When the plan is accurately defined, the reflection is admirable. A poorly defined plan is a lee way to failure. In an organization, every employee needs to have personal plan because it helps in bringing reality to the job done and most importantly keeps the reality front of mind. The plans forces every individual to declare the approaches they are to use in order to realize the goals. They then get committed towards achieving the goals set.

Importance of Leadership in Relationship to Healthcare Policies

Leadership is integral in realizing the set goals. Healthcare leadership is very important because it defines the nature of treatment that should be accorded to the patients. The leadership help in enacting essential policies that define and integrate appropriate standards of deliver care. Through leadership, apposite care and treatment is offered to the patients. The leadership ensure that there is proper sanitation in the environment, foods, washrooms and many other places within healthcare building.

Conceivably, leadership results to the policies that help in improving services at healthcare centres. The policies set in the nursing fraternity have greatly helped governmental organizations to advance and promote world health practices. Visionary nurse leaders understand the consequences of the social, political and economic factors on the health and well being of the public. Today nurses work tirelessly in order to make an important contribution to planning and decision-making. They also work to the development of appropriate and effective public, health and nursing policy on all levels.

Through the policy, the works of the nurses and the midwives are found to have brought about quality care for many individuals and families throughout the world. Both professions work hand in hand in health policy making decision processes, which eventually have a benefiting outcome. From direct delivery of nursing and those of midwives, the patients are more relived because the services are to the standard. By working together to sway policies, nurse leaders have increased contributions of both professions. The impact of the increased contribution is to help in bridging disparities between political strategic direction and actual clinical practice so that they work hand in hand.

Leadership Theories

  • Transformational Leadership Theory

This theory states that in the dues process when interact with others, he should become transformed. He should be able to create solid relationship with others and high standards of trust. He should avoid anything that can lead to mistrust among them. In the due course of interaction, he should be able to prove to others that he is a leader who can bring significant changes in the society. The interaction should result to both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to the leader and the followers. In so doing, the leader is at a high position of bringing implausible changes within and outside the institution.

In this theory, a leader should be able to transform his followers through inspirational nature and alluring personality. He should act as a role model in every circumstance and people should enjoy associating with such a leader always. Benard (2017) states that transformational leader is one who motivates others to work beyond their expectation.

He achieves this by inspiring them to focus on broader missions that surpass their own immediate interests. Through motivation from transitional leader, the intrinsic drive in employees should be higher that the extrinsic motivations. They should find reasons to work hard without being pushed. In other words, when the leader work hard, the juniors will find more reasons to work extra hard in order to realize the goals set. They will have personal strategic plans that will help them achieve the targets that they are set for.

  • Contingency Theories

This theory argues that there is no single way of leading. Situation dictates the leadership methodology to be used in every realm. The nature of people led also determines the kind of leadership style used. For example, there are some individuals who can show maximum response in their performance in certain places, but a minimal turnover when taken out of that particular place. Because of this reason, the manner in which such a person is treated when in a highly performing place should not be the same as when he is in lowly performing place.

The analysis made is that this kind of leadership is strongly affected by the situations in which the leader emerges, and in which he or she operates. Taken together, the theories resulting from this type of study make up the contingency style to leadership.

This theory however, is an extension of trait theory. This is so because human trait is an important factor in determining the kind of leadership to apply. The use of trait and behaviour approach in leadership shows that effectual leadership entirely depend on many variables. The variables include organizational culture and the nature of the job that is done within the organization.

The trait of the employees is widely developed by the nature of the nature of the jobs subjected to them. It is also important to note that no one trait is common to all effective leaders and no one style can be used by all leaders in every circumstance. Situational or contingency approach of leadership is of great relevance to managerial theory and practices. In this case, it is important for the manager to consider the circumstantial situation when designing the environment for performance.

  • Behavioural Theory

Conversely, this theory delves much on the behaviour of a leader. A leader should be one who posses good manner. He should be respect in every circumstance. Ideally, the respect should be earned depending on the manner in which the leader behaves. There should be a clear outline between the human behaviour and that of a leader. This theory state that a leader is made and not born. There is some behaviour that can develop in someone because of the genetic reasons that cannot qualify him a good leader. However, when these traits are well nurtured and the person upholds to the leadership ethos, pathos and logos, he qualifies to be an important leader within the society.

Such a leader is one who posses utmost qualities that derives the organization towards success. He is one who motivates employees with positive rewards. He uses both upward and downward communication to ensure that everyone is reached in the long run. He is a manager who consults others in order to resolve some of the problems that might arise within the enterprise. Most importantly, the decision that is made at the topmost level should be geared towards the betterment of the organization at large and no one should feel oppressed.

In other words, behavioural theory is a type of leadership that involves a lot dignity and decorum because one is judged according to how he portrays himself. It is worth to note that behavioural theory categories leaders into two, those who are concerned with the task and the manner in which they are done and those that are concerned with people. Ideally, they may mean two different things, but their essence is identical.

  • Trait Theory

This theory has an immense believe that a leader is either born, only few are made. There are certain qualities that make one to excel in his leadership roles. That is, such qualities are intelligence, creativity, taking up responsibility, ability to take risk are some key elements that are looked into when determining a leader. The theory also focuses on the mental, social and physical description of someone. Through these traits, one is able to have deeper understanding of the composition of such a person, whether he qualifies to lead or not.

Many researchers have tried to identify the physical, social and even metal personality of various leaders. However, the great man theory has lost much relevance with the rise of the behaviourist school of psychology. It is pinned down by the fact that physical appearance, height, or even the energy that one has does not qualify him to be a good leader. In general, trait theory has not been a successful approach for explaining leadership. Not all leaders' posses all the traits that are mentioned in this theory, and according to this theory, you must possess the all the traits for you to be a qualified leader.

  • Preferred Leadership Style

According to me, the preferred leadership style is Transformational Leadership Theory. Transformational Leadership Theory has many advantages as opposed to other forms of leadership discussed. First, it leads to individual growth and development. It helps to transform group members into individuals who can easily excel beyond self actualization. It makes employees to forgo their self interest for the sake of the organization. Transformational leaders are highly committed in ensuring that that they set pace and good examples to their juniors.

Second, the type of leadership increases performance. This comes about because it develop followers who can perform beyond their own and other' expectations. When expectations are higher in an organization, the outcome is also higher. This type of leadership results to healthy competition since everyone would love to be associated with good result. It brings about zeal and zest in every worker that makes him has personal strategic plans set towards achieving the goals set.

The third importance is that the type of leadership can be applied in series of setting. Unlike other types of leadership theory, transformational leadership is more effective and adaptive. The leadership can be applied in educational, hospital, and even militaristic setting. Most importantly, it does well in business setup because it improves sales hence helping the company to grow at a rapid rate. Lastly, the impact of this type of leadership can reach every level of an organization.

There are some leadership styles that cannot be applied on particular organization, but this one is very flexible and adaptive to every circumstance in any organization. In so doing, it helps the company to meet new challenges and device appropriate approaches that can be used to curb the challenges.

  • Personal Leadership Philosophy

I strongly believe that an effective leader is one who works with the sense of urgency. He does his work with clear mind purpose in mind and deep intention in the heart. He is such a leader who works the hardest and gives the best. He agitates for positive progress all the time and is seriously against anything that is a drawback to success within the organization. In every realm, the leader maintains communication to ensure that every bit of information is passed appropriately to all the staff members. I believe in leadership by action.

A successful leader is one who leads other through examples. He works tirelessly to ensure that he brings a positive change in the organization. Through his hard work, the followers are intrinsically motivated to realize their set objectives. He is judged by the actions not intentions what you are speaking loudly that the followers cannot hear what you say. Such a leader is an asset to the organization.
