Initially there was very negative reaction especially from the society when she made her decision to raise a child on her own. There was always stereotype regarding the inability of a single parent to raise a child who is well mannered in the society. Many thought she would be unable to raise a some who could soon turn into gangster and start terrorizing the residents. She did not allow the ideas of others have influence on her she was very determined to succeed and show the community that it does not take both parents to raise a well-cultured child. It depends with the type of parenting that has been considered in raising a child, which is crucial in dictating the behavior of a child. She really struggled early financially since her husband was the breadwinner (Hetherington, 2014).

Being tasked with raising a child, she was able to overcome the challenge due to her hard work. There are many stereotypes regarding single parenthood that are not true and should be effectively countered by ensuring that there is a significant focus on parenting style and not whether a given family is single parent family or not. Even though there are single parent family that have failed, the mistake that is usually made in such situation would be the choices that the parent makes for his or her child. The society should learn to be supportive (Maurya, Parasar & Sharma, 2015).
