An Opinion on Why I Believe I Have Good Leadership Characteristics

Leadership is a very big task and involving team/teams can be very overwhelming but can also be a very good challenge for some. Some may succeed at leading while others may fail because other factors and things out of their control. I believe I have what it takes to be a good leader and the ability to create/run good teams. I believe I can do this task since I have good leadership characteristics, I am an ethical and humane leader and I am a good team leader due to the leadership qualities I possess.

Firstly, to simplify, leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization to complete a task. Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal. Leadership is not anything that has to do with titles. You do not need a title to lead. For example, you can lead in your family or community without having a title. Leadership stems from social influence and not authority or power. Leadership requires others and includes a goal. With leadership there are many styles and many paths to effective leadership. What makes a good leader are actions like admitting their mistakes, leading by example and recognizing others strengths and weaknesses. These actions lead to growth in within the group and organization. Characteristics of a bad leader are not listening, not caring about how their actions impact others, not willing to learn or grow, showing favouritism and blaming others for failures but taking credit for any success that occurs.

Secondly, ways to make an effective team are building trust, respect and communication. With these three ways it betters the team and navigates the team to success. Also, being true and honest is a good way to make an effective team because it will show to others that you are a reliable person. Lastly, to make an effective team you must have a team effort. Once you have a team effort going it makes tasks easier and helps achieve goals quicker. Managers play many roles when it comes to teams and teamwork. Some roles they play are creating the vision, implementing the vision and mentoring, Managers help lead the team in developing and helping everyone focus on the organizations or teams main purpose. They play a role in implementing the vision by breaking it down into specific, realistic and achievable goals. Managers' help workers recognize how the work they will do relates to the main goal of the organization. Lastly, they play a mentoring role by recognizing talent within the group. Managers contribute to the development of their employees by encouraging growth and increased productivity.

Lastly, the characteristics I have that would enhance my ability to be a good leader are honesty, communication, confidence, commitment, creativity and a positive attitude. These characteristics would enhance my ability to be a good leader because I would do a good job of communication to the group the task at hand and how to achieve that task by making realistic goals along the way. Also, with my confidence, commitment and positive attitude I will contribute to the mentoring of others and the development of my employees by encouraging growth and productivity. There are a few characteristics that would hinder my ability to be a good leader and those characteristics are having tunnel vision because of me being too focused on the goals and task at hand. Another characteristic is demanding perfection from others since I demand it for myself as well. Lastly, pressuring others to complete their task in a specific time period is a characteristic that could hinder my ability to be a good leader but I believe I have enough good characteristics that will help me become a good leader.

Overall, I believe I have what it takes to be a good leader because of my characteristics and qualities that I possess. Also, I am an ethical and humane leader that likes to see the group and organization succeed. I believe I have enough good characteristics that will help enhance my ability to become a good leader and the bad characteristics I have will be overmatched by my good characteristics.
