In today’s society, there are many advancements in medicine with technology and research, but with that rise, there are health disparities and inequality in healthcare that has affected many rural areas and minorities. “Health disparities result from multiple factors, including poverty, environmental threats, inadequate access to healthcare, individual and behavioral factors, and educational inequalities,” (Adolescent and School Health, 2018). Finding ways to close the gap between health disparities remains an issue in the United States.

Internal Issues at SRHS

In the case, disparities in care at Southern Regional Health System, there is no reasoning behind the health disparity many patients are receiving. Looking at the case study, Time Hank is looking at the results of the recent Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-sponsored assessment of the cardiovascular care provided by his organization. The results are staggering because they show that the population in Jackson, Mississippi has a diverse population as well as a high poverty rate which leads to health disparities in medical treatments individuals receive. “This issue of disparities in care was receiving increasing national attention, but Hank had thought the care they provided at Southern Regional was “color blind.” Given the health system’s mission of providing “excellent quality of care for all,” he assumed that the care was equitable delivered across patients and patient populations,” (Olden, 2015, p. 328). Many healthcare administrators want the patient to receive the best possible care, but without assessing and creating a strategic planning model, it is not possible.

Strategic Planning Model

Looking at the strategic planning model, where are three questions that need to be asked, “where are we going, where should we be going, and how do we get there.” (Olden, 2015, p. 40). The initial part of the stage for strategic planning model is used to help present the first question, of where are we going. This stage is used to analyze both the internal and external environments of the organization. Using the SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats), it helps the organization to understand the present condition of the organization and the reports.

In the second stage, it is the process to identify the future state and what will be happening next. During this stage, the organization det3rmins to where it should be during a period of time, by clearly identifying a specific goal for the organization. The goal is to help employees as well as advise them of the objective the organization has. A clear mission will help employees strategize their actions and thoughts.

Conclusion

Tim needs to make a clear plan on how this will be resolved and eliminating health disparities overall. This will time take due to the manage stages in leadership roles, but with the help of various level managers, this is possible. Tim needs to make sure that the plan in addressing health disparities at Southern Regional Health System needs to expand its capacity and reach various departments and not only the ones that are having issues like heart care. With the expansion of services and reaching out to every single employee, the issue will be resolved, but the plan needs to be carried in various parts.
