In this very short course I have learned more than I thought I would. When I registered for this course I was anticipating a very rigorous, very simplistic course. However, when I first walked into room 233 at the Collin College Spring Creek campus, I soon realized I was in for more than what I had anticipated.

This English II class taught me to not only become a better, more fluent writer, but I also learned about the compassion of others. I learned what it takes to be apart of a cohesive group. At the beginning of this course we were asked to read different types of literature and discuss them as a group. Nevertheless, at the beginning of this course it was hard for me to participate like that. I had my own ideas and perspective on these short stories, I just didn't always announce them. I was always good at math and science, but I always had a hunch for writing. To me writing is an outlet, some prefer coloring, others prefer playing an instrument; however I enjoy picking up my pen, pulling out my notebook, and just writing. This course has allowed me to practice that outlet. Each essay was a task to accomplish, and pushed me as a writer.

The first essay we had to write was the diagnostic essay. This essay was a great way to start the course, requiring the students to meet a certain criteria. The diagnostic essay also helped me get into the mindset of English again, which was great because of all the physics and geology finals I had been taking at the end of last semester. From the diagnostic essay we had multiple online assignments. The online blackboard assignments benefited me more than I had anticipated too. Because most of the time we had to watch or read an article and form our own opinion in a multiple paragraph post, I was able to learn how to incorporate more ideas and explain them in more depth in a short and brief manner. The assignments on blackboard were also very interesting. Each assignment was fun to learn about and made the students think in a worldwide perspective. Personally, my favorite was the assignments in particular were the TED Talks. Both TED Talks were interesting and enjoyable to watch and also to discuss. Forming a response to peoples comments also helped me understand peoples perspectives on an issue and formulate a response to their idea in a professional manner.

When writing the annotated bibliography I also learned how to include just enough information in the appropriate amount of words. The annotated bibliography was my favorite essay to write. I enjoyed being able to research a topic that meant a lot to me and take my stance on it. If I had to go back and re write that essay I would probably change the introduction, I would add a conclusion and I would make my opinion more vivid. The same goes with the argument essay; if I had to rewrite it I would clearly state my opinion in the introduction. I would also include more of the opposing side, however I did like how I was able to incorporate one of my other favorite passions in the world into that essay. Music. I enjoyed bringing together two of my favorite genres of music into that essay, both rap and rock.

Overall this course was a very interesting and fun course. I was able to learn a lot about being a better more fluent writer in an easygoing environment. If I had to give any advice to the incoming class of English 1302 I would tell them to keep an open mind.
