To begin with, both novels Animal Farm and Brave New World are fictional works, one of an allegory of the communist regime that was in The Soviet Union at that Lime, and the other as a dystopia of what could happen in the future if our society kept the same way. However, they are not just fictitious stories, but are based on the situation of the society and what it could entail in a not that far away future, This may seem a little extremist, but it is obvious that our developed and evolved society of the 21“ century has more in common with some dystopias than we would like to admit.
For instance, comparing us to the story told in Animal Farm, we can see how on the surface we all are more equals than before, when the society was divided into aristocracy and peasantry, but still as in Animal Farm’s famous statement, some people are more equal than others, and at the end of the day we all don‘t have the same privileges and opportunities. On the other hand, looking at dystopias like Brave New World, or the acclaimed 1984 by George Orwell, we can see how our society is manipulated in many ways, some that we aren’t even aware of.
But furthermore, some we do know, but don‘t really care about because they have made us believe it is normal or necessary for our security, like the way the government could have access to a lot of information of ourselves through the internet, and how much controlled we really are, The more advanced we and the new technologies are, the less privacy we get and the more we get closer to those unwanted dystopian worlds. Finally, it is also true that luckily we are not that brainwashed and have more freedom, and we still could do something to change the way things are turning out to create a different future for us, but not many people seem to have the courage to stand up and change a thing, so we canjust hope that not much of the stories became true, and just remain as fantastic literature.
