They are three very smart women who work for NASA and are climbing their way to the top of NASA. But have to deal with issues like racism and sexism. Nasa doesn't have many women working for it and its mostly men.So women are not very high in power and the discrimination does not help either. Katherine Johnson was born in 1918 in west Virginia. She was the first black woman to be given a spot at west virginia university. But then after college got a job at NASA in the west computing group where she worked for the next three years. After those four she was moved up into calculating launching coordinates,for the launch of john glenn. She was later fired from her job because there were machines that could do it faster.

But when the machines failed they called her to calculate the coordinates.And she turned out to be faster than the machine. Then she was given a permanent job making calculations for NASA. Dorothy Vaughan was born in 1910. She was working at a temporary bar job,but then Roosevelt passed a law prohibiting racial, ethnic, and religious things in country defense. And the rising job interest in aeronautics she got a job for NASA in the west computing group she was the head for west computing for a decade. But eventually was promoted to take care of ibms which were the machines that calculate launch and land coordinates.

Mary Jackson was born on April 9 1921. She graduated college with 2 degrees in math. She worked as a math teacher for one year but then moved back home and took 3 more jobs there. A bookkeeper, stint, and secretary but after she got out of those jobs she took a job at NASA at the west computing group. She was at that job for two years until she got promoted to working for an engineer at NASA in wind tunnels. Her boss offered her to take a program that would give her the option to move up to an engineer instead of a mathematician. But the school was a white man's school and she was a black woman she needed special permission.

She got permission and after taking the classes she became nasa's first black female engineer. They influenced people today because they fought against racism and sexism and never gave up.They showed that if you never give up you can accomplish what you want.Mary could have given up when they told her the school was not for women. But no she fought and kept trying to get into that school and she did.They showed that no matter what people think and say that they don't matter that you can do anything no matter what.that is the lives of Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan,and Katherine Johnson and why they made a difference.
