The personal computer (PC) has changed the way we live in so many different ways. It has made things that would take time and effort to find much more accessible, where a person can almost always find the information they are looking for instantly. PC's have made it easier for businesses to thrive, and communication is easier than ever. It has made it so that one can find entertainment with a few clicks of a button, whether it be a game, video, or an event.. This invention may have many upsides, but nothing can come without a cost. PC's can change warfare in the future with hackers nowadays, with the PC's versatile functionality.

The PC was originally designed to accommodate one person at their home, and fulfill many of their needs such as typing or research. The first personal computers, introduced in 1975, came as kits: The MITS Altair 8800, followed by the IMSAI 8080, an Altair clone(Knight). In 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen developed a program for the Altair that allowed people to write their own programs in Basic program language(Trueman). It wasn't until 1977 that the demand for PC's skyrocketed due to the release of the Apple II, a color computer with expansion slots and floppy drive support. Then, one year later, the spreadsheet was made and made the PC a useful business tool.

Bill Gates' and Paul Allen's newly formed company was called Micro-Soft which was later changed to Microsoft. This company made the way we save/access information, communicate, and find entertainment much easier, building on what was once just an invention meant for typing and research. We are now able to find almost any information we want with just a few clicks, and relative ease thanks to the innovations of this invention. Without Microsoft, the PC may have been nothing more than wasted potential.

The invention of the PC has made communication much easier, with the use of emailing and social media. Most of these services are free as well, making them a cheaper alternative to letters and phones. Entertainment is now also much more accessible due to applications such as Youtube, which is full of endless content. Besides just entertainment, apps like Youtube can give independent artists, comedians etc exposure that they would not normally have gotten. With all of these services, people can also advertise their events to get more people attend, or advertise their products to sell.

Although PC's have many benefits, they don't come without their downsides. For example, many hackers have tried to break into military systems. A handful of costly military satellites and ground stations were deployed between 2012 and 2016 so they could pass secure messages between the U.S. Army’s portable radios and cellular networks around the globe. But when a team of Navy hackers tested it in 2015 and 2016, the system turned out not to be so secure(Fryer-Biggs). This may be trouble for our country in the future.

PC's have definitely affected many peoples lives, whether it be for better or worse, PC's have made their mark in history and will always remain one of the most impressive technological advancements ever. You are now able to find almost any information you need, and be entertained by the things you want. This is all thanks to Microsoft, who made have innovated what once was thought to be just for typing and research, and have made the personal computer into something truly remarkable.
