In Roald Dahl's short story, "Lamb to the slaughter", Mary Maloney is a pregnant housewife that dotes on her husband Patrick. It is this attorneys claim that Mary is a victim of temporary insanity brought on by the news Patrick was leaving her for another women. There is no other evidence or probable cause for this unfortunate event. Mary really cared for Patrick and loved him very much. Mr. Maloney was very short with Mary. Mary regretted killing him and she immediately started to cry because her feelings came back for him. Mary Maloney is innocent of second degree murder and this will be proven by the evidence the defense has obtained.

Mary Maloney's actions showed she genuinely care for Patrick, so news of his affair came as a shock.
