Faith and Hope in the Face of Despair

There is certain simplicity on the film Children of Men by Alfonso Cuaron which helped his audiences to better understand the film. The film could be categorized on the scientific fiction types although it does not seem to focus more on the science fiction quality of the film. Rather, it made its audiences better relate with the actors and actresses on the films since it gave prime importance in showing human touches of the movie. Children of Men is a great movie in that it made its audiences feel as though they play a major character on the said movie. The film is also emotionally stimulating in its own rights who made its audiences realize what hope could do for the mankind.

Children of Men is a story set at the year of 2027 wherein humankind is faced with the problem of extinction. The film revolves around London wherein terrorism and other warring fractions are on the move. However, a pregnant woman could be the hope humankind is looking for and thus Children of Men made it its task to make sure of the woman’s safety and in the process it gave hope and faith where supposedly there is none.

Personally, I enjoyed this movie and there are a lot of things I liked about it. Survey showed that there would be a continuous growth on Earth’s population yet the film showed how humankind would go instinct by the year 2027. That particular brilliance alone could capture the interest of many people. The quality of the action scenes within this movie is also great most especially since they show a lot of shots wherein there is no cut and I do not need to say that such stunts are hard to pull off.

What I want most about the movie is the way Cuaron captivated his audiences making them one with the film. He also portrayed in great image what it is like to lose all hope within this world and to be engulfed with total desolation. However, in spite of all the negative things happening during that time in the movie, a light of hope glided its way on those desperate people thus making its audiences believe more on the power of faith and hope.

It is hard to enumerate the things I did not like about the movie since I completely enjoyed the movie as a whole. However, at first, I have seem to lose interest on the movie since the setting does not much what mankind expects the future would be like. I mean, the movie is not very realistic since as of the moment we are faced with the problem of continuous growth of population yet the movie depicted an equally opposite kind of problem.

At first I hated the way the movie had been presented in a very vague manner. I mean, I no longer know who is fighting who. I had also had trouble of understanding what the theme of the movie really is. However, when I got half-way through the movie I realized that those very criticisms helped a great deal in promoting the movie and it’s a product of Cuaron’s genius.

Both Julianne Moore and Clive Owen played their parts of estranged wife and husband real great. The way they also showed their emotions every time they remember their deceased child is also exemplary. I like the way they handle the chase scenes the most.

However, Michael Caine, Claire-Hope Ashitey, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (even though they also played their parts just great) is still a long way behind the acting skills of Moore and Owen. I mean there are certain instances on the film wherein they did not look very convincing.

The film as a whole is very interesting and it made in such an exemplary manner to the point that it captivated its audiences for the most part of the film. The actors and actresses did their parts in portraying the necessary images their roles asks of them. Another major factor I like most about the film is its ingenuity, simplicity and uniqueness. It could also be an interesting diversion from the stereotypes kind of films and it could help a person value faith and hope more once they are faced with utter desperation.
