The Iron Fist revolves around the life of Danny Rand, a billionaire who is concerned with unravelling his identity and being in control of his father's company. Danny and his parents suffered a tragic plane accident which left his father dead and his mother's whereabouts unknown. After the accident, Danny was saved by a group of monks from the mystical K'un-L'un. He was taught enough kungfu that then helped him defeat a dragon barehanded which made him become the iron fist.

He was also taught the art of meditation and how to summon the chee which could stop bullets and even break through walls. With all this power, Danny was charged with the responsibility of guarding the way to K'un-L'un which he abandoned and decided to go back to New York to run his father's company, find the people who killed his parents and destroy the hand movement. An Aristotelian tragedy depicts the downfall of a hero through misjudgment or even fatal errors where the protagonist suffers and arouses fear and pity from the audience. With the story of Danny not being a perfect classic tragedy, this essay will keenly expound on the various sections of the Iron Fist movie which show that the movie is an Aristotelian tragedy.

Danny never seemed to understand that his return from K’un-L’un after 15 years since he and his family disappeared would bring so many problems around him and the people around him. He wanted to go back to New York and immediately take control of Rand Enterprise. Of course, the Meachum after taking over the company will have to fight back to keep the company. Proving his identity by word of mouth would not be easy. Taking back the company would mean that the Meachum would lose everything they had built for 15 years.

Herold Meachum being the one who took over the company was so much affected. Prove shows that Harold even participated in the murder of Danny's father. When Danny tried to enquire who killed his father from Madame Gao, she said: "it was someone much more treacherous than I. infarct, I tried to talk him out of it." If Herold killed Danny's father, then he would not hesitate to do so to Danny. That is why he had him locked in an asylum, and even at the end of the movie, Herold set him up to the police by accusing him of stealing money, drug trafficking and even assault.

Danny made a mistake to trust Herold since he though Herold was much of a father to him as his dad was. At one point when Herold's secret premises were invaded by the Hand, he told his daughter Joy that "Danny is making a noble sacrifice for us" when he was taken by the leader of the hand. He knew that at that time, Danny could not summon the chee but he was not willing to do anything to help Danny. Danny could also not escape his misery after he ignored his duty thus Davos had to come for him and make him go back to K'an- L'un. He was also always chasing the hand which placed him in far worse problems. Assaulting the police was also another way in which he could not escape the problems.

When the Hand's leader and his followers invaded the secret office of Herold, took Herold, Joy and Ward hostage, shot Joy and asked Danny to voluntarily give himself up to them within 30 minutes or Joy would die from the bullet wound and Harold's head would be chopped off, Danny had no option but to give himself up to the Hand. He considered the Meachum as his family, and he could not have left them to die for his mistakes. He told Colleen and Claire that "I am going to save them with or without you." If it were not for the appearance of Colleen and Davos, Danny would have suffered a great deal.

When Colleen Danny and Claire captured Madame Gao, Danny was bound to save Colleen, his lover from the poison that had infiltrated her body after she was struck with a sword by one of Gao's associate. Since Colleen aimed to recruit Danny to join the hand, she asked Danny to Call Bakuto. However, Danny was not aware that Bakuto was the hand's leader. Madame Gao told Danny that "you are about to encounter an evil you have never encountered." Danny did not even think about what Madame Gao said, and he ended up using his chee to draw the poison that was in Colleen's body. At this point, his chee became powerless, and he could not resist his abduction by the Hand. He could not use his chee to fight. Thus Davos had to help him escape.

Danny realised that he had trusted Herold so much like his father that he used this weakness to exploit him and make him suffer. He was so angry that he frankly told Ward that "I am going to kill your father." Danny was so much possessed with the spirit of vengeance that despite being shot on the hand by Herold, he fought him until he had metal protrusions penetrate throughHerold's back and poke through the stomach.

Danny saw Harold at this point as the dragon that he had faced that he was satisfied with killing him. Despite the fact that Herold was shot by this son till he fell off the roof to the ground, Danny was so much satisfied with this act. He remembered what madam Gao said to him that "by killing Herold, you will be the true iron fist." However, he had already forgotten what Colleen had told him that "If you kill Herold because of your vengeance, it will corrupt your chee. You might never be the iron fist you were meant to be"

Despite the fact that Danny killed the treacherous Harold, and that all the charges placed against him were dropped, all was not over. He had neglected his duty as the iron fist to guard the entrance to K’un-L’un. When he went back to K’un-L'un with Colleen, he found out that this mysterious city had already disappeared and that there were dead bodies belonging to the members of the hand all over the gate which made him realize that his negligence to his work might be the cause of all this.

The film was not such a perfect classic tragedy because the hero did not suffer as much tragedy as it was expected. In all those instances that he found himself in a mess, he always had someone to save him. This was important because the hero had an opportunity to exploit other loops in the people he was fighting thus gaining his heroic characteristics otherwise if he suffered a complete tragedy like losing his chee forever, the movie could have taken a drastic turn and even its title, the Iron Fist could no longer be valid.
