Since I started college I always knew I would have to take a speech class and dreaded it from day one. In general I never liked when people looked at me and would usually freeze in class when I had to give an presentation. This class was a huge and welcome surprise I actually enjoyed my time in here and I really appreciate how you structured this class to start us off small and work our way up. For my first speech my Tell A Story I believe was my best delivery out of all of my speeches. I believe that is because I was most familiar with the story and hardly used my notes. My volume was my only problem in this speech, which I fixed in the rest of my speeches. In my Informative speech I had some problems in my outline where I forgot to bold my sources and in my delivery I played with my hair which I tried to work on for the rest of my speeches. I think a really good strength of my informative speech was the originality of my topic.
No one had heard of the monument and were really interested in my topic when I told them what it was. As for my policy speech I think my delivery went pretty well. I fumbled a bit during the speech because I did not number my notes like I usually do and they were out of order. I also forgot a few labels in my outlines and was not as detailed in the implementation of my plan as I could have been. I also think my topic was original and my classmates were definitely interested when I told them what my topic was. I think something that I can still work on in the future is weaning myself off of my notes a little bit. I use pretty thorough notes and in the future would like to be able to do a speech off of just some key points. I think that I have really grown as a public speaker and that what I have learned in this class with help me in my future endeavors.
This class was actually my favorite of the semester. I really enjoyed the relaxed feel of the class and how I was never bored. I also liked how the lectures were easy to follow and take notes to. They were very useful when I had to write my speeches. My favorite speeches to write were the ones that required an outline. I liked that kind of organizational technique and it made writing it a lot easier. I appreciated the typed notes for some of the longer classes, which I think, made it easier to follow along and pay attention to. I also liked the fact that we could use the doc reader and computer to help with our visual aids; I thought that made delivering the speech and presenting the visual aid with minimal disruption easier.

I was not however a big fan of the group work, I got a lot more feedback and pointers from you when you wrote on our topic proposals. I felt like the groups were just a waste of time usually. One thing that I wish we could add though is some sort of chart that we could fill in throughout the semester with traits and big points of the different speeches you showed us. Whenever you showed us a speech I did not really know what kind of notes I should take or really how to organize it. I think this would help with that and I think it would make comparing the speeches and studying them easier. I did feel like I actually knew everyone in my class though which I really liked. I have never felt like that in a college class before and it was very helpful.
